to worry about the future of the world

why so so many people just want to harm others.

Melbourne is generally a peaceable place, but about 10 years ago went through a phase of gangland killings (nasty violent criminals killing other nasty violent criminals) . Once most leasders were wiped out, the killings stopped.

This weekend, we had a long weekend and there is a family festival. Instead a bunch of violent gang members threatened the city- police ignored it until it went wild in the main part of the city.

Why do so many people want to inflict pain on others? I really worry about the direction the world is heading

The gangs this weekend are people fleeing conflict in Sudan (mostly) and then start violent clashes in their safe haven.

The question is when.

Umm, humans have been killing all round themselves for thousands and thousands of years. In far greater numbers than we've known in our lifetime. This is by far nowhere near as bad as its been.

"why so so many people just want to harm others"

I think it's good to call a spade a spade. That article makes a lot about the disenfranchisement of immigrant communities but no one's really scared that immigrant women are going to run rampage are they?

We will kill ourselves, let's hope we don't wipe all life on the planet when we do.

Yanbu. For some reason, I feel that society is more and more selfish. As long as they are okay, fuck their neighbour. I wouldn't say it plays on my mind constantly, but I do wish people cared more for their fellow man.

I don't know. I think there have been far worse and brutal times in human history

Do you know I really really hope that there are aliens. And that they're benevolent intelligent beings who will come to out planet and show us how to live in peace. Because as far fetched as it sounds that's my greatest hope for humanity. I have just reread 1984 though. Don't read that if you're wanting to be cheered up.

If there are aliens theyre busy building impenetrable defences so we dont get in and fuck up their worlds too.

All together now " Lets hope there's some intelligent life up there 'cause there's bugger all down here on earth".

You're probably right elf. That's why they've not landed yet. They probably had a quick look, abducted a few weirdos and thought "he'll no!".

I'm hoping that in the near future, we find a way or the motivation for most people to leave the planet and head to the stars - leaving Earth as a 'cradle' being looked after by guardians. I don't see any other way to save it, I'm afraid.

90 percent of the world is happy and peaceful, all we hear about is the bad stuff. The media totally skews our perception of what the world is like. We are not all going to hell in a handcart, most of us will lead happy and peaceful lives.

Yes its media and the instant access to almost any location in the world that makes it seem like its everywhere. You can find out about a bombing on the other side of the world via FB minutes after its happened with footage of the carnage as its is happening. Terrorists are uploading threat videos to the internet/newstations. We have every drop of news delivered right to our pocket in the form of mobile phones. It is understandable that its feels like its right here in our living room but in comparison to the past we are about as safe as we ever have been. (The planet is a different story)
