AIBU?

To send ebay bags to charity shop

brummiegirl1 · 26/01/2013 13:31

I sold 2 bags of baby clothes on ebay on boxing day for £6 each. I put in my listing collection only and i emailed when payment was received asking when they would like to arrange collection.

I got no answer and still no answer after 3 more emails. In the fourth email i said that if they didnt arrange collection then i would get rid of the items with no refund.

Funny enough i got a reply back straight away saying they were expecting the items and i was to post them. I replied saying that it was clearly stated as collection only and i wasnt posting as there was too many clothes which would cost more than £6! They then replied saying it was free post and i was to post them. I said it was freepost because it was for collection!

I got an email back later asking for my details. I sent them and also asked them when they would like to collect them. I havent had a reply since and am fed up of the bags just hanging around as trying to make space. I understand the bad weather may have been an issue but i think at least they should reply.

Would it be unreasonable to take clothes to charity shop? Or would you wait a bit longer?

Do they live near enough you to collect them?

If they have made a genuine mistake, could you not refund them?

Yabu to get rid without a refund imo. But I don't use eBay. I would possibly email eBay and ask.

If they turn uo next week and you gave kept their money and got rid, could that effect you eBay status?

to refund on paypal go into your account go to the transaction click details and there is a link for refund its easy promise and if the buyer has paid and you dont give her the goods she can do a non perforance seller against you and give you negative feedback which lowers your standing for 12 months i would try and sort this out if possible, would the buyer pay extra for you to post them as baby clothes would go easily into a box to post as they are not breakable

and if you refund you dont get your listing fees back but do get your final value fees back

You are being a bit U, you cant keep the money AND guve the othes away.
Refund them, cancel the transaction and eBay will give you your fees back

You should have listed them as 'no postage, collection only' rather than 'free'. There is a drop down box to select to do that.
I think you will have to refund her the money and brace yourself for a negative feedback.

The correct thing to do would be to make a request to cancel the transaction and refund them their money. When they agree to the cancellation, you will get your Ebay fees back so you won't be out of pocket.

I would open a case with eBay to cover yourself. Does the person who bought have much eBay history? It sounds like they may be trying it on if they spotted you were new. Or maybe they are also new and genuinely don't understand.

the buyer had 44 feedback when they bought my items and they had 54 when i emailed them last. I think the thing that is bugging me is i have emailed them politely a number of times and they have ignored me even though i know they have bought other items

TBH, I think if you did (mistakenly) list it as a free post item, you are in the wrong here and should offer to refund them.

If you listed as free postage then it's entirely likely that the buyer would have thought you were going to post them for free. Unfortunately not everyone reads the whole listing, especially if they're in a hurry towards the end of an auction, or using ebay on their phone.

My advice would be to contact ebay and ask for advice, but you should be prepared for the buyer to demand a refund and leave negative feedback. If ebay rules that you should refund them, they can take the money straight from your paypal account, and if you try to stop this they can eventually send debt collectors after you (before my ex and I broke up he had been selling his collectables using my ebay and paypal accounts, after he left he never posted any of them and I ended up owing hundreds in refunds and listing fees, which were all my responsibility since it was all in my name). It would probably be a good idea to post them, preferably by recorded/signed for post with a tracking number, even if it would cost you more than you got for them, and take it as a lesson in choosing the right postage option on your listings.

I would refund the money and then take them to the charity shop, even though it's frustrating dealing with ebay thickos who can't read a listing properly it's still not right to keep their money and their goods.

Free Delivery is not the same as Collection Only. I would be leaving negative feedback given the attitude you displayed.

Just refund their money and either relist or get rid of the stuff at the charity shop.

ThedementedPenguin · 26/01/2013 16:49

If you listed it as fee postage the mistake is yours not there's. if it was meant to be collection only then you should of selected it. I recommend you refund them and relist or put straight to charity.

Yes, but alot of listings state free delivery and then say in description 'collection only'..
Op did you state collection only in any bit of your description? If you did then it's there fault for not reading it all.
I'd let Ebay know whats happened and see what they say.

lovelyladuree · 26/01/2013 16:58

' Free postage' is a completely different animal from 'collection only'. It sounds like it was your mistake and they are punishing you for it. Just refund them. If they haven't paid, then they can't leave you shitty feedback. And be careful with you future listings. It is all in the detail and there are many people out there waiting to pounce on the novice ebayer.

I wouldn't send a cancellation request if I was you, you will only get a refund of the fees if the buyer agrees to the cancellation and I don't think they will in this situation.

lljkk · 26/01/2013 18:11

OP says they put in the listing collection only.

The buyers sounds so useless I would move to cancel transaction without refunding. It cancels automatically after 4 days and then I would take them to charity shop.

I would refund (-paypal fees) if they asked for refund after that, but otherwise I'd feel I deserved to keep something for the aggro.

Brummiegirl - assume you're in Birmingham? What size are they and are they boys? If they're 9-12 months or larger and boys then drop me a PM with a link to the orginal auction and if they're what I'm looking for happy to buy them and send dp over for them though may need to be next weekend as he's busy. I'm not allowed to drive for medical reasons at the moment but may be able to get them sooner just depends where abouts you are

If thats all too confusing and complicated ignore me :)
