I posted yesterday a status about being escorted to my car by a brick shit house security guard. One of my friends posted "was he hot?" And I replied "I couldn't possibly comment LOL"
Anyway it was just a bit of daftness but boyfriend has been off with me ever since. He hasn't actually mentioned it but his whole tone towards me has been "cool". No kisses in his texts and generally being quite stroppy. Is he over-reacting or was I being unreasonable?

Well... It's difficult to say, because we don't know him, or you, and it's entirely possible he's upset over something else.
I mean, it'd be a stupid thing to get upset over, but then it's a stupid thing to say anyway. So really you are both unreasonable. Childish comment, childish reaction.
That said, maybe he's upset that you've told everyone you were escorted to your car by a security guard?

I think it always helps to reverse it.

would you laugh? would you feel a twinge of jealousy? would you feel it was a bit disrespectful to be joking in front of everyone about some other woman's gorgeousness? would you think it was nothing at all?
No kisses in texts? Moods over things on FB?
In my day people just talked to each other and didn't have to decipher coded messages or figure out how much we were loved by how many kisses were on the end of a text. It was all so simple then.
