AIBU?

Why are people are such fucking awful drivers??

I have nearly had 3 accidents in the last week, all because people genuinely don't know what the crap they're doing on the roads!

1st near miss, a really old man just cuts across me in traffic without indicating, making me absolutely anchor brakes, while his poor wife waves madly at me mouthing, "I'm so sorry!"

2nd, I'm driving down a bendy road, road bends completely to the left and as I come round the corner, a guy coming in the opposite direction is overtaking a frickin' bicycle on the bend - had to ramp the pavement to stop from getting hit, lucky I didn't burst a tyre.

And then this morning, I'm minding my own business driving down a residential road and when a huge pick-up truck jumps out of one of the side roads and would have driven right into the front of my car if I didn't put my brake pedal through the floor of the car.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?????

YANBU.

I find anticipating other drivers stupidity is helpful.

YANBU. But their journey is more important than yours you see. Wink

Yanbu but I wouldn't tell anybody they are a crap driver because most people are under the impression they are the stig

I don't give my opinion on their crap driving either. No honking of flashing of lights and no hand gestures. I am scared that they may have an axe in their boot mainly.

Almost every time I am out in the car, I see people who clearly got their driving licences by correspondance course.

I had a few this week, mainly caused by people being in the wrong lane on roundabouts thinking that their best option is to weave through the lanes and pushing in without indication to make their exit at the last minute. These are daily commuters so no excuse for not knowing the road. Just too important to get in the queue like everybody else. I would have more sympathy for someone who genuinely got into the wrong lane, but sometimes they have to realise that the wonder of a roundabout is that you can always go round again rather than risk a collision!

There's been loads of floods and road closures round here this week. Appears the Road Closed signs don't apply to all though. Hmm

Alisvolatpropiis the constant driving on tenderhooks waiting for someone to crash into me is that only way I managed to avoid getting hit these last three times! I genuinely expect everyone to be a total idiot and am normally proved right but it gets very tiring!

I'm not allowed to wave, gesticulate, mouth obscenties, or do any of those things anymore because DH thinks I'll get stabbed. He's probably right, to be fair.

So now I reserve hooting for trying to stop pick up trucks and old men driving into me, rather than ragey hooting aimed at Aggressive Lane Changer driver.

And while we're on the topic - WIBU to label anyone who drives up my backside (when I'm already just over the speed limited) as an unmitigated prick? Surely someone who does that has no redeeming qualities whatsoever?

Tailgaters are everywhere. It's horrible.

I was heading into my local town yesterday afternoon. The weather was terrible and it was getting dark. I was in a 40 zone coming into a residential area. Some utter prick zoomed past me at about 80 mph going towards the centre of the town. People were breaking and swerving and it's just a miracle that no one was hit.

YANBU

favourites round here include not indicating when turning right at a roundabout and giving way to the left on roundabouts.

I wonder how many drivers rate themselves as having 'below average' driving skills?

Someone has to be below average. (hope it's not me!)

YANBU,

It would seem that the worse the weather conditions are, the more hideous the driving abilities become. People forget to indicate, don't check their blind spot and generally act like utter dick-heads.

I hate to sound like my Grandad (may he rest in peace) but the quality of driving standards really is at an all time low.

It is ignorance coupled with stupidity coupled with couldn't-give-a-shit-about-anybody-else-itis.

Rarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Angry

I'm with you OP. I swear for some reason in my city on a Wednesday everyone drives like complete wankers. EVERY freaking Wednesday I have people cut me up, tailgate me, overtake cyclists at dangerous points etc.

What is it with sodding Wednesdays?

Almost everyone is technically a 'bad driver' complex. People who've been driving for a while have about a 5% pass rate if they try to take their test again, iyswim.

Everyone still seems to be driving whilst on the phone, I saw about three this morning. No excuse for that.

Report
ImperialStateKnickers · 28/11/2012 14:10

Not sure what the current penalty for driving while on the phone is but it ought to be both phone and car being crushed.

What I hate most is becoming the 'wanker buffer'. I never ever tailgate, I'd rather not end up in the back seat of the car in front if there's a reason to hit the brakes and where I live there is an abundance of winding country lanes.

Many people choose to drive quite slowly on these lanes, and sensibly so, as you never know if there'll be a tractor around the next bend. So there'll be someone in front of me doing around 40-45, I'll be keeping a good, but not ridiculous, distance between us, and then some complete wanker will come tearing up behind and spend the rest of the journey glued to my back bumper, weaving aggressively, shouting and waving their arms at me to hurry up (as though I can simply pass through the car in front by sheer force of will). Often they'll overtake me dangerously, just to end up stuck between me and the slow the driver in front. And then another wanker will hare up behind and the whole thing will begin again.

Yup, I hate being the wanker buffer.

I don't understand why more people aren't prosecuted for using their phones when driving.

I can think of a particular junction near us where a police office/PCSO could book a driver a minute.

YANBU

I was driving home from work on the motorway last night, torrential rain, no motorway lights, very poor visibility, spray on roads. I was doing 50mph which felt safe and was realistic. People were overtaking me at about 70-80mph Shock They were also driving way too close to the car in front.

I hung way back in case one of them crashed and I got caught up in it Sad I said 3 million Hail Marys and arrived home safely Grin

There's a particular roundabout near me which people just don't seem to be able to understand (for anyone who knows the town I'm in, no, it's not that one suprisingly! Shock)

The last few times I've been on that roundabout I have had

  • someone in the right lane next to me who then decides they actually want the first exit, so deciding to turn left across my path.
  • someone in the left lane who decided they wanted to go right, again across my path.
  • as I went past the 1st exit, planning to come off at the 2nd, someone sped onto the roundabout just behind me then zoomed past me on my left hand side forcing me to swerve out of their way and go right round the roundabout again!

It's a simple bloody roundabout, nothing unusual about! How the hell do people get it so wrong?!

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2012 14:20

Exactly Jenai, and I could name a few places to catch people speeding.

Motorways in torrential rain are frightening, but that doesn't stop people screaming down the outside lane. How can they even see with all the spray? Confused

Today I witnessed a car in front of me overtake another car on a blind brow of a hill/bend type location.......exactly a week ago today someone was killed in that exact spot.

In fact the police signs asking for witnesses to the fatal accident are still there.

If that isn't going to stop someone then I don't know what will.
