I've always called him baby, from about the third week of knowing him.
My friend told me that whenever I call him that it makes her absolutely cringe. She's really not the type to use pet names very often, so I don't mind her saying this but -
AIBU to not think I'm the only one to love calling my OH baby or is it rather cringe?

I would also cringe, sorry. However, call him whatever you like. Who cares what others think?

Well it´s cringe for me also tbh.
But I doubt that you´re the only one who does it.

I quite often call my DH babes.....I call my DSes Baby though so it would be a bit confusing...

Yeah, it's one of those instantly cringe-y, only-really-used-on-TV nicknames.
But it's your choice what you call your DH, as long as he's happy with it.
As an aside, did he not worry that you'd forgotten his name when you first called him it? Or that you were trying to avoid getting names confused? that's what they taught us at school. Good old all-girls school

Call him what you like
But surely you're not surprised to learn that some people's pet names for their partners make other people cringe?
To be honest the only person for whom I'd stop doing it if it made them cringe is your partner. For anyone else, who cares? If you're both happy then call him what you like.

Cringe
I can imagine a lot of people do this
when they hear you do it.
He's a man. Not a baby. Give him a man's name. Like Pedro. Or Spartacus.

I would cringe if my OH called me baby, but if your DH is okay with it then carry on.
My lovely (now ex) boyfriend and I used to call each other baby
. When I moved in with my DH, he used to try to attract my attention by going "pssst". I know which I prefer.

Call him whatever you like!
Me and DP have a bit of a strange nickname for each other, we try to remember not to use it in public though.

CajaDeLaMemoria I do rarely use his first name strangely.
I did ask him early on if he minded me calling him baby and he said no he thought it was cute. So hopefully he didn't think I'd just forgotten his name haha.

Aren't all pet names a bit cringey?
I still cannot look my mate's husband in face after finding out she calls him Mr Woggles. Woggles is not his surname

It's cringey. Keep it for when the two of you are alone.

It doesn't matter what your friend thinks. Until you start calling her baby, her opinion is completely irrelevant. What you call your DH is between you and him and is fuck all to do with anyone else.

Cringe, but then my DH calls me chicken, and I imagine that would make most of you cringe too, so who cares, it's not really hurting anyone
My friend calls her DP baba - that makes me cringe too, so nobody can win, lol

"He's a man. Not a baby. Give him a man's name. Like Pedro. Or Spartacus."
that reminds me of a scene from 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 days' -
"If you are gonna name my... member, you have to name it something hyper masculine. Something like Spike, or Butch, or Krull the Warrior King."
Pancakeflipper did you ask how they came up with Mr Woggles?
Me and dp often say babe, which is a bit cringey, but people saying baby makes me want to vom, sorry.

Viviennemary I do try to, but sometimes it just slips out. Like when I'm on the phone the phone to him and I generally always say I love you baby.
Also I don't mind what my friend says. I think at the beginning of her relationship there was abit of an argument with her DP because she never called him a nickname. So she's really not the type of person to want to use pet names. She didn't say it in a nasty way, more a jokey way.
I just wondered if anyone else felt it was cringe too.
I'm still waiting for someone to come on and say they call their DH baby too! I can't be the only one on MN haha.

Charl - I did. My friend refused to tell me. Even after nearly 3 glasses of wine we are wine lightweights
That just made it even worse in my very active imagination.
I occasionally call Df babe - I also call him by his surname never his actual name ( as he was referred to by his surname when I met him so it stuck)

Haha oh no! I'd love to know the background story to that one.
I'm a fellow wine lightweight, after 3 glasses I'll most likely tell you anything (whether you want to hear it or not haha).
In her Christmas card this year you should write to X and Mr Woggles
