I am doing a joint party for my DD with 3 other DC from her class (so a party for 4 DC)

In passing i said to one of the other mums, who i am having the party with, that i probably wasn't going to be getting presents for the children, as i see it organising the party and all it entails is a gift in itself. The party is for about 40 children in total, so all the children are going to get plenty of gifts.

The party in itself is going to cost enough, and it would mean having to find more money to give the children presents.

Someone suggested just getting a token gift - if so what.

The DC will be 5

So AIBU and what would you do please.

It wouldn't occur to me to not get presents for the other children so definitely discuss it with the other children's parents.

Surely the cost for the party is being split 4 ways? And if they are close enough friends to be having a joint party I think not buying a little something is a bit odd

are you paying for the whole party? if you're only paying 1/4 you're already saving money and only really paying your dds share. will the other 3 be bringing your dd a gift?

I guess if you aren't planning to get a present for your own dc for their birthday and say the party is it instead then I can see the logic. Unless it had been explicitly agreed before though I would buy a present for all the other children.

If money is tight all round, but other mothers want to do presents then why don't you agree between you a fixed amount, e.g. 8 pounds and then buy one present each and give them from the other three, so dear w love from x y and z etc. That would still work out cheaper, or come and look on the christmas bargain thread where there are bargains galore to be found. You could pick up something half decent for 2-3 pounds if you know where to look.
