If one more person tells me they make their bread themselves when they actually use a machine I will scream. Seriously, I'm going to turn purple, steam will come out of my ears and my head will spin round.

Yeah - I hate it when people use shop-bought ovens instead of fashioning their own clay ones, too.
And they don't always mill the grain...
Lightweights.
YABU. And slightly hysterical.
Seriously, it's just bread.

YABU Just because they aren't kneading it themselves it's still home made isn't it.

It counts in that you know exactly what ingredients are in the bread you eat, unlike bread you buy from the supermarket.
It's homemade but with shortcuts.
YAB a little bit U.

TBE, me too! I mean what is wrong with people today.

If you use a blender/oven/mixer/whisk does that also mean you're not making your own food as well?

yab a snob.
I make my own bread using the bread maker, never use mixes, though.
YABU. I'm making my own bread right this minute while I sit on my arse and MN
Seriously though, I think YABabitU. What they mean is that they make it rather than buy it. It's still homemade, technically, even if it doesn't require the time and skill of actually kneading it by hand etc.
TBE that's nothing! When I were a lad there were none of these fitted kitchens. We made them wurselves out of timber posts nicked from down t'pit.

I make my own bread - using a breadmaker. Just let me know when you have stopped turning purple, steam has stopped coming out of your ears and your head has stopped spinning
. Will you have stopped before my next loaf is finished, in 3h 18m?
yabu
Do you only count 'cooking' when you chop wood and get the 'oven' going yourself?
The breadmaker kneads and heats - like an oven with a stirrer.

Erm, Yabu. Unless you cook yours in a fire you have built yourself.

If it helps, I really do admire home-made bread which hasn't been made in a machine. It is different, and generally better. Especially when FromGirders makes it.
I just have decrepit elbows.
When dd's a little older, I shall set her to kneading bread to vent her rage.

Where do you draw the line?
If I make the dough in the bread machine and bake it myself am I allowed to say I made it?
What if I do it in a mixer? And if so, is it different if I use a stand mixer that I just have to switch on from if I use a handheld one?

My god no I don't make my own. I buy it!
But if I did make my own I would Mill my own grain and use the clay oven I built myself.

I don't mind people saying it.
It is homemade and it does contain the same stuff as 'proper' homemade bread and not the extra crap in shop bought stuff. Unless people use the bread mixes - what is that all about!
I don't think it tastes as nice as 'handmade' bread but that's just me.
It's a good plan TBE, DD loves kneading and it gets out all of her 5 year old frustrations!!!
Why?
Do you tell them off for saying they wash their own clothes because they don't go down to the river to bash them on rocks?

Shop bought bread is full of salt and often has preservatives, and is overpriced. At least with the bread maker you can decide how much salt, sugar to put in and how fresh it is. As we use a loaf a day making it by machine stops me going to the shop and therefore saves me money. It makes a lovely smell and takes two minutes to put the ingredients in the machine.
One bag of flour is £1, makes three large loaves so cheap, too.
OP - what do you want people to call it then when they make bread using a bread machine?
I have a bread machine and use it at home, so it is home made bread and not industrial factory bread.
I don't complain when people tell me they are eating bread rather than telling me they are eating industrial made bread

YABU! I am proud of the one and only time I made my own jam, in the jam setting of our breadmaker 3 years ago, and nobody will ever take that away from me!!! So there!
