To think it says a lot about our society when it seems people are more concerned about regulating dog ownership than offending someone's right to have children!

Threads after threads after threads on here:

Dog ownership should be regulated; breeders should be licenced; breeding should be illegal unless you have a licence to do so and commit to vetting your owners; we should bring back the dog licence; it is irresponsible to have a dog if you're going to work full time/not treck across the wilderness for at least half of your waking day/aren't prepared to put in the training... etc etc etc.

But dare to suggest that there are people out there who shouldn't have children and apparently this is wrong because that would be against their basic human rights. hmm

Suggest that someone cshouldn't have another baby if they can't afford it/don't live in a big enough house and you will be branded unfeel/uncaring/not understanding of someone's need to reproduce.

By law if you mistreat your animals you can be banned from having any more.

But abuse your children and you can keep having them and SS will evaluate on a child by child basis whether or not you will be allowed to keep it.

I do not condone the mistreatment of animals by any means.

But I think that a lot of people seem to have lost all sense of perspective...

ive always said parenting classes should be compulsory

if people dont attend, they get their child benefit stopped

hotheels Fri 10-Feb-12 16:24:53

Yanbu. Totally agree 100%

TheOriginalSteamingNit Fri 10-Feb-12 16:27:02

I think you've lost perspective when you compare dogs with babies, actually, or the desire to own one with the biological fact of having the other.

If dogs didnt bark and owners didnt let them leave stinking piles of shit all over the place I wouldnt be bothered by dogs on the whole. I think they should bring back the dog licence.

The eugenics part I have no comment on.

I unfortunately have to disagree as no matter how unpalatable it is having a whole load of neglectful having children the alternative (forced sterilisation) is a whole lot worse and has no place in a civilised society (much like I think about the death penalty).

There will always be a whole load of idiots who have children and we will always have a responsibility as a society to look after those children.

I agree that sometimes it is ridiculous that some parents get to keep subsequent children - I have a foster child and her mother has gone on to keep subsequent children hmm - personally I wouldn't leave her in charge of a hamster.

As an adopted child I agree.

Some people are shit

I agree that people should be vetted before they're allowed to have children. I also agree that people should be vetted before they're allowed to keep pets, including dogs. Feral kids are a nuisance and so are feral dog owners.

FreudianSlipper Fri 10-Feb-12 16:34:41

i think it is stupid to compare the two

i guess you are in favour of forced sterilisation of humans too

Kayano Fri 10-Feb-12 16:37:12

You could try and pay them to get sterilised... You know to buy drugs and drink important stoofs?

Didn't they try that in America

disclaimer - I am deliberately stirring the shit before it hits the fan

People should be fitted with contraceptive devices until they can prove they're going to be a decent parent.

(Daily Mail readers should be exempt, of course) grin

oh marvellous! regulating Poor People! brilliant.

anyone who wants to own another poor person, should be assessed and regulated.

hmm

hiddenhome Fri 10-Feb-12 16:44:28

I own some poor chickens. I haven't been assessed or regulated hmm I could be doing anything to them right at this minute! shock

Thankfully, they are actually better cared for than some peoples' dogs and children, so my conscience is clear smile

Kayano Fri 10-Feb-12 16:44:50

Who mentioned poor people? I mentioned shit people stirs

StrawberrytallCAKE Fri 10-Feb-12 16:51:00
