To put it mildly.
I know that the stats on rape convictions are ridiculously low, and I know this is a soap, not real, life, but, surely this will put even more women off reporting what happens to them??

I am hoping that at some point the truth will come out and he will be convicted. But yes I agree with you.

I think he gets caught out eventually.
I agree though, this will deter rape victims from coming forward.
Silly storyline imho.
I'm not watching it but assume you have just given away the outcome of the trial ?
I agree too (havent seen tonights yet btw)
No amount of future comeuppance will take away the fact that a jury found him innocent
assuming he was found innocent of course, as I said, I havent seen it yet

Shoot sorry how do I ask MNHQ to put a spoiler warning on the thread title? MNHQ are you there??
I know I know it's not real and I hope the truth does come out, but watching Carla isn't going to inspire anyone to put themselves through that for no result is it.

Report the thread (the button is in line with your name) and ask MNHQ to change the title.
I thought they'd go for a guilty verdict, particularly when the exact same thing happened in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. All 3 were genuinely raped, all 3 found not guilty.
Not great encouragement for victims to prosecute.

Another spoiler here...
I read that in the near future he rapes Sally, so I assume that's when he'll end up back in court and convicted.

I don't watch any soaps any more, partly for reasons like this.
It's all about the drama and getting people to watch next week. I wish I didn't know this storyline, but you can't get away from it.
I think If I watched I'd explode with anger.

But it's portraying it close to real life
And real life conviction rates are shockingly shit. And there was the doubts about money the factory and the seemingly convenient timing (even though it wasn't true)
The issue here is not coronation street but the way women do get treated in court over rape allegations...
Like shit

It's not a spoiler, as the episode has aired.
This storyline has been jaw-droopingly badly handled. As have many recent Corrie story lines, but none so sensitive as this. It's worse than bad, it's insulting, and has been played out over far too long.

I hadn't heard the Sally story.
I know it's true....as in happens a lot...but I am very annoyed about it.
I remember the brookside story....I was very young and in fact, I remember the peter Harrison rape story very well, I admit I was so stupid and naive I thought he was so good looking he couldn't have raped her...I've grown up and learnt a lot but I wonder what message this story is now giving to other young girls, especially from a venerable programme like corrie.
I feel I need to apologise again for my stupidity with the brookside thing.
Hi there
I have added a spoiler warning to the thread title
Thanks

I agree OP. It was a very pessimistic episode. I know a rape victim with a forthcoming court case and so followed this with particular interest.
Not only was Carla humiliated in court and by others on the street labelling her a liar, but Carl in the Rovers made some throwaway comment like "Well when there's no witnesses it's just her word against his" (or something like that).
FGS How many women (or men) who have been raped or assaulted will watch that and decide not to report it? I know it's a only soap but they could really have done some good here.

I know the spoiler about Frank but I still think they should have made him via the justice system.
