Actually today I wanted to say something that wouldn't have been rude at all (the world's most thoughtful random dog walker obviously sensed my unease as I approached and stopped her dogs and stood between me and them while I passed) but I didn't. I should have.

At the pub once a somewhat outspoken friend pointed out (in front of a load of mates) that my partner was wearing a suit with a stripe, a shirt with square and a tie with circles and wtf was he thinking. He went out the next week and bought a load of plain white shirts and plain ties and that is all he has worn since.

I'm kind of grateful to her. I was obviously being too tactful.

I wanted to say: 'Get out my fucking way' to the extraordinary number of people consulting maps on the pavement, walking four abreast, meandering towards me while texting, blocking my way while looking at menus outside restaurants, having a chat in the middle of the pavement, standing in front of me at the kerb when the road was completely clear but not crossing because the green man wasn't lit and generally milling about.

It was like being in a zombie film.

But I didn't say anything because I would have looked mad.

I hate that tone-on-tone shirt and tie combination too. It was a very big look for footballers a few years ago.

I recently told a woman that I was so impressed that her children waited patiently while she fetched their meals, they were so quiet and well behaved.

I think that she had been having a bad day, cause she looked so chuffed and almost tearful when she said that it didn't feel like that.
