AIBU?

That Elton and David should not have had a baby

I dont know how true this is, but if it is I totally disagree with them having a baby. The whole point of having a baby is because you want to have children and want to be near them, and be involved with them. When I had my dd I just wanted her near me, and could not stop looking at her. Looks like this poor baby is just a fashion accessory, going to be raised by nannies whilst they go out and party and enjoy celebrity life. Totally wrong, just goes to show what flashing a bit of cash can do.

What makes you think they don't want to be near their baby? Wouldn't have anything to do with them being gay would it? Hmm Rich and extravagent people have babies all the time. But because this one has 2 fathers people seem to have taken it upon themselves to comment.

i can think of many parents more deserving of censure than Elton John and his partner.... YABU
and why believe what you read in the daily fail?

Well if it's true, then it's clear that the poor little bugger IS simply a fashion accessory. Elton's meant to be a complete spoilt twat, isn't he? I can't see him getting up in the night somehow.

I daresay the baby will be brought to visit Elton and David between 7pm - 8.30 or something, so they can coo over it and pick its outfit for the following evening.

Yabu. Who are you to judge and do you believe everything you read?

Apparently they dissed an orphan they were meant to adopt, made all sorts of public promises and nobody heard anything since

  1. Quoting the Daily Mail has rendered your argument invalid by default.

of course it's unusual... but i would wager plenty of parents have night nannies/maternity nurses etc, baby in its own room and don't do any or all of the night feeds etc..

No I dont agree with the Madonna adoptions either. Well we are all entitled to our opinions are we not!

The OP says "I don't know how true this is" so she doesn't necessarily believe everything she reads.

She then goes on to say "IF IT IS then I totally disagree with them having a baby" and I agree.

IF IT IS TRUE, then they shouldn't be having a baby, and it's nothing to do with being gay, straight or Australian.

If you read it the likelihood is that the adjoinign wall has been knocked through. So the lucky kid has a supersized nursery.
Now forgive me if I go scrub my eyes and brain clean of Daily Fail bullshit.

Ok if they all were in the same house/flat but with night nannies, but a separate building alltogether! Surely you would want to be near your baby or with close proximity.

people have babies for all sorts of reasons, many of them selfish.. many people go into it with a different idea to the reality.. i really can't get riled about this

Exactly TLR I said nothing about them being Gay, words are being put into my mouth. If it were a straight couple it would still be Hmm. But yes its a Sunday afternoon and I have nothing better to do but read the DM and pass comment. Of course if you are a celebrity you are in the public eye and are more open to critisism.

Oh dear, The Daily Mail again. Even my cat would not deign to poo on that awful rag. It has a homophobic, anti-foreign and classist agenda. The adoption must have been a gift for their bigotry.

People have babies all the time...God forgid if we all had to sit on a jury to discuss their qualifications for the job. I have cancer and I am often too exhausted to spend as much time as I would like with my girl. So off the list for me. How many of us would be left?

I think your op and the fact the babies nursery is an ajoinibg apartment is not necassrily the same thing.

Report
AMumInScotland · 02/01/2011 16:48

It's not "a separate building altogether", it's the next apartment over, and they are very likely knocking the wall through. Would you rather they and the baby and the nanny all squeezed together in a 2-bedroom apartment? If they did that the papers would be full of stories about how terrible it was that the baby had to share with the nanny and how they ought to invest in the next door apartment to make a big enough flat for their addition to the family.

Non-story, made to sound like something awful because it gets people riled up. If they weren't famous and gay, nobody would be bothered to get upset over it.

Sorry, but how many people go on and do exactly what they planned when they first have a baby? There must be hundreds of couples on MN who imagined the baby cooing peacefully in its cot while they sat in the other room reading War and Peace/writing a bestseller/working from home and getting a promotion. And does it happen?

This article is only saying what Elton and David are planning for their baby, not what's actually going to happen for the next few years!

If they werent famous of course we would not know we would be none the wiser, why has being Gay got anything to do with it Hmm.

Hmmmm, well there are a still a few parents out there who send their kids to boarding school and have nannies for the holidays, so only interact with their kids when said kids are nice and clean and are on best behaviour.

I suspect that this child will have a whale of a time, a good education and a nanny who adores and is adored. EJ and D will worship the ground he walks on anyway, I'd stake everything on that.

Being gay has to do with why the Daily Mail want to make them seem unreasonable, unfit parents, more interested in an expensive make-over for the apartment than keeping their baby close, determined to pick out the exact characteristics they wanted (explains in detail how they could have had a designer baby but doesn't actually say that they did), and generally imply that this is about money and appearances, not an overwhelming desire to have a child.
