AIBU?

to heed the health warning and decide already the DCs won't be getting 3-D Nintendos?

Nintendo have issued a health warning to advise against young children playing 3-D games on their new release console (due out Easter) as it might damage eyesight.

Link to Beeb report here.

I suppose they might be being excessively precautionary (cynically so, against being sued), but as it's the manufacturer saying this, it doesn't strike me as scaremongering.

No way are my DCs having one. AIBU? WWYD?

Haven't read the article but i'm not letting mine have one on the grounds that they do so many other things (sport, homework, playdates, small amount of Wii, small amount of TV, lots of reading/playing/family walks)and can't see why they should have any more screen time than they do - particularly such insular screen time. From reading research I can see that too much screen time is unhealthy for social/mental development(so insular)and fitness levels. I'm sure in small time limited amounts of computer games are fine but when kids spend too much time doing these things I know it can be a real problem. I've worked with too many men who as children slipped into a computer hazed slobbering about/hash smoking life style with little motivation to go to bed or get up on time/learn/train/work/live. Life just passes them by.

If they are actually ADMITTING to it, you can bet it really IS harmful.

DC, contrary to modern perceptions, will not, ever die of boredom.

They do not need to be kept occupied every second of the day.

I hate computer games.

They've already got Nintendos; it's simply the new 3-D one I'm not going to let them have.

Caution with any prolonged use of 3d it just has to be time controlled, but very easy to overdo.More serious than 3d is that theres no health warning on Waybuloos children can end up with all sorts of weird problems,ie constantly going into a trance think they can float up on a high start messing with crystals roaring like lions eventually leading to a lot of chanting and wanting to join a hippy movement. At best getting away with joining a self help group when there 16.

rupert1: the manufacturer isn't saying "limit use" - they're saying under-6s should not use at all.

3D is shite. I keep waiting for more people to realise this.
