we're meant to be completing on a house on Friday. The sellers had already been promised 5 completion dates before we even had a solicitor sorted out. This completion date (Friday) was one we all agreed was feasible, although it depended one 1 piece of paper making its way from the sellers to their solicitor to our solicitor to our lenders.

The sellers sent the paper to their solicitor 3 weeks ago. Our solicitor received it last Thursday and immediately sent it to the lenders. they are now pissing about doing whatever it is banks do at this time of year, and fobbing off our solicitor when she calls them. EVERYTHING else is in place to complete.

If we don't complete on Friday, it'll probably be monday or tuesday, and we are away for 2 weeks from tuesday (arranged well before house buying even entered our minds, and although we could cancel the trip, FIL would be devastated), so could end up being responsible for a property which we can't see for a fortnight.

So now I'm pissed off with the bank, pissed off with the sellers (who told us they were most emphatically not in a chain, so there was no rush to sell, and it now turns out are in a chain which we are holding up), pissed off with myself for booking friday off work to fanny around make sure one of us is free to pick up keys (as we were told we would have to). I'm REALLY pissed off with the seller's solicitor, who was so nearly our solicitor too (lucky escape there, methinks) I'm worried that there will be a big freeze and our new house will have frozen pipes because we can't get to it to turn off the water. We're also going to end up paying an extra month of rent, as we have to give one months notice in writing on date of rental which is the 21st - so if we haven't completed by then, we've got our rental property until feb 21st instead of jan 21st Xmas Angry. That's another (nearly) grand thrown away.

Just need to go RAAAAAAARGH! Xmas Angry

(oh, and AIBU?)

YANBU!!!!

We are still waiting to exchange with our seller who gazundered us last week!! And he is still taking his time and doesn't have a mortgage offer!!!

mamatomany · 15/12/2010 13:15

Why do peopledo this to themselves, everyone know people work part time from Dec 1st onwards, expect everything will be snail paced and you'll keep your sanity.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/12/2010 13:15

YANBU. We had similar earlier on this year. I saw the house in May, we made and had an offer accepted, the survey was done sent to the building society who then withdrew their offer due to us being abroad (they specialise in overseas mortgages) and my DH starting a new job. We had to get another mortgage, another survey and searches etc. The vendor was harrasing me, she shouldn't have had our phone number. It all culminated in me driving to the UK to transfer some money and we should have exchanged the next day. Two weeks later the exchange happened, then two more weeks later we completed.
House buying is a total nightmare and you have my heartfelt sympathy.

mamtomany, we expected snail paced tbh, thought we wouldn't be moving before january, as the seller said (several times) "oh, we're not in a chain, no hurry to move, etc etc" then it turns out they're in a chain and NEED to move before christmas. We don't care so much WHEN we move, but the constant stop-start of this is so fecking frustrating! We're 1st time buyers, so no experience of this stuff, which doesn't help.

We went to check the property recently and the seller was so pissed off at us for not having completed yet, when it was their solicitor who was delaying it. just GRRR.

good luck freddie, we're hoping we don't get gazundered. TBH if we do, we'll be telling them where to stick it.

Any news arudolf?

trixie123 · 16/12/2010 19:53

my sympathies. we just completed today selling DPs flat which we had been renting out. even without the stress of actually moving its a total pain in the arse and if there are any solicitors on here please can you tell me why you leave it until a couple of days before exchange / completion to raise an issue that you MUST have known about weeks before like a missing piece of paper? thanks you Xmas Smile
