Hi- is anyone or their DC taking Grazax? We are hoping this will be the magic bullet that will help DS this summer, but he is suffering form side effects and am anxious to know if anyone else is in the same situation?????

Im taking grazax, started a month ago..
Get the tingling under the tongue and feel like a lump is under there after I have taken it but seems to go after a short while.
Have had sore throat for 3 weeks but not sure if thats related or not.
What side effects is your DC having?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne Tue 17-Mar-09 17:31:23

Initially none, now the lump under the tongue for about an hour afterwards. Have given him piriton which seems to help - tomorrow am going to try giving the piriton in advance to see if we can ward it off.. ( am hoping the side effects mean somethign biochemicla is happening which will be ultimately beneficial..{grin]

The consultant at royal brompton said that in some cases the side effects get worse over time.. I never had the lump thing at first but do now.. Mention it at the check up..

Hope it does work..

My son is suffering badly now and I am thinking I will ask about this treatment. Last year he was really bad during his GCSE's
This year he has AS levels and I am worried that he will be bad again.
Can this be prescribed by GP's?

Hi - you need a GP referral - my son is also being treated at the Royal Brompton - we had to start earlier this month in order for it to start working for this summer, so it is probably too late for your DS this year sad

It takes alot to be let onto the Grazax. The consultant at the Brompton said when I saw him that only 4 out of a hundred had been allowed by their primary care trusts to be put onto it as its £80 for a packet.. money money money..
I know there was alot of fighting between my PCT and the Brompton but it all came good in the end..

Yes, RH, I forgot that - I had to get a leter from my GP to agree that the PCT would continue to prescribe and pay after the inital first month provided by the RB.

Hi. I have just done a search on MN and found this old thread. Would love to know how your DC is now MrsGuyofGuisbourne as my DS had his first dose yesterday at St Thomas'. He has itching in his mouth with some swelling too and vomited so not the best start. We have been asked to cut the tablet into quarters for the next week to build up more slowly. He is only just 5 so very young. I am very nervous about giving him his next dose but will give him Piriton half an hour before.

Would love to hear anyone else's experience especially if positive.

Many thanks
