What is everyone getting for their 7/8 year old daughters?

I'm in a bit of a muddle, as I really don't know what to get for dd who will be 8 in the spring. When asked, her answers are

  1. A phone (haahahahaha! Fat chance....), or
  2. A DS.

Which I'm loathe to do (#2).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My DSD 8 is pony mad. On her list was:
Boden pony appliqué top (eBay)
Boden pony skirt
Sylvanians pony and cart
Pony overnight bag
Pony friends silver locket
Sylvanians show jumping set
Subscription to Pony Magazine

DH and I are consoling ourselves with the fact that pony - madness may keep her off boys for a while!Grin

My DD is also 8 in the spring. She has asked for a Monster High doll, Irish dancing uniform and a wig (!). She isn't getting the wig.
She knows she doesn't get a phone until secondary school and she already has a 2ndhand DS. i've also got her a Fashion Designer sketchbook, a onesie, new slippers, a Lush bath bomb, a Wii Sing game, build a bear outfit, Monster High DVD and lunch box.
Popular presents last year were inline skates and Cool Cardz.

Oh the pony thing just goes on and on doesn't it.....!

DD got roller skates last year and they went down a treat! Also, some Hello Kitty coolcardz, which she loved.

Aurgh. I wished she needed a bicycle or something......

(bangs head against wall)

Dd is 9 in february, she quite likes crafty stuff. I have got her a make your own build a bear type kit and sewing stuff from the boots 3 4 2 that she will enjoy. Fashion friends books from amazon were popular last year, and have used these as presents for friends too.

Dd2 has just turned 9. She likes Jacqueline Wilson books, girly Lego with people, music - CDs, DVDs, drawing. Ermmmm she says she still likes barbies but she has them and never plays with them so I'm not wasting money.

How about a camera? Unfortunately too late for the Canon £50 instead of £130 bargains on amazon last week but there are usually some good deals in the run up to christmas.

DD is just 7 and has asked for a pink scooter and an old-fashioned typewriter Confused. She does tend to ask for odd (but not unreasonable) things - for her birthday she asked for a calendar and a magnifying glass.

We are getting dd (7) 8 in June. A 3story dolls house and she has asked for monster high everything! She already had a 2nd hand ds so may get her some games for it. Also she wants roller skates but am worried she may nt be able to use them as she still can't ride a bike.

Wombat, we have got our youngest one of those teepee's, we can just bash all of the toys in it and make the place look tidier. Ummofun, girly Lego is cool, and fun for grown up's too.

Our 7 yr old is getting the Sylvanian families Hotel for Christmas (bought at a bargin communal buy 3 for 2 last year. I have noticed that the shop are not including the large pricey sylvanian items in the 3 for 2 this year.

My 7 yr old loves crafts. She has asked for one of those Lalaloopsy dolls but it appears that Santa has unfortunately ran out of them. On the plus side she hates Barbie and Brats.

Would she like a microscope?

Oooh, great ideas, many thanks!

I had a microscope when I was about 8 or 9 and loved it, will look into that.
Am also thinking about a decent quality diablo, as she has a cheapy which she really enjoyed, but has found a bit frustrating in that it is limited.
Sylvanian families just get left in their box and never played with here.
A real camera is a good idea too, thanks for that. She was given a v tech camera a few years ago which she loved, but may have grown out of now.
DD also loves crafts and makinjg things, but I so often find that the crafty kits are just assembling, and there is not a lot of creativity in it.....

(Lots of food for thought here!)

Thank you, any more ideas, please keep them coming.....

Smile

Don't get craft kits, invest in things like wool, buttons, ribbon, fabrics, those card boxes for them to decorate, felt, stamps, nice paper etc.

I got my dd the book Green-Crafts-Children-Emma last year and she enjoyed making many of the crafts in it.

I have ordered some Djeco craft things from here for DD - they have 10% off on a £50 spend and the prices are a bit cheaper than have seen in different shops.

My dd (also 8 in spring) has asked for a scooter, new helmet, chocolate lolly making kit, spirograph, a beauty bag with horses on (?), a moshi monster cuddly toy and Top Model felt tip pens.

Scooter is main pressie (Nana's getting the helmet) and will get variations on most of the other items. Planning on getting a Lakeland chocolate lolly mould rather than one of the crappy kits aimed at kids.

i agree that if you're going down the craft route to get separate items and make your own kit.
you could put anything in it then.
ooh i know and buy a plastic toolbox with little compartments to keep the stuff inun!
she'll think that's really grown up.

but i live the camera idea toil.

How about a dressing up box with old clothes / makeup / hats / shoes / handbags of yours? My DSD 8 would love that!

My dd is 8 at Christmas.

From everybody for Christmas she's having roller skates, helmet and knee pads, books, Hama bead pony set,JW journal and some Sylvanians(camper van and tent). This has been the first year she has really got into said Sylvanians.

For her bday from everybody she's having gerbils(real ones), Polly Pocket pet shop(only bit of tat entering the house this year),Lego Friends house,Sylvanian hamsters and I suspect a few other SF things.

Her brothers are having the Lego Vampye Castle which she is uber excited about too!Grin
