I have been looking for one with little drawers.

Lakeland Limited have a Bethlehem Stable Advent Wooden calender with little doors but it's an eyewatering £59.99 .But it does have 11 five star reviews.

I bought one many years ago on QVC - it has a little tree that you place on a musical stand (it's resin, painted) with little hooks. The advent part has 2 doors (handpainted) that open up to 24 doors.

TBH I cannot remember how much I paid for it (about £30 or so) but we've had it for about 8 years. I put chocolate coins in - this year I'm going to put a £1 for each of my DC on a Saturday (nice new shiney coins) .Idea stolen from MN.

Fortnum and mason have a few that are just lovely, but they have the not so lovely price of eighty quid! Have a look on amazon, they probably have more reasonable prices.

This has probably been done before, but I'm toying with the idea of getting one of those 12 drawer chests from IKEA, and painting it festively (is that a word?)

They're £20. But I would need to cut out a handle on the other side of each drawer so they can be turned round and refilled once the first 12 days are up. I'm not sure it's worth it.

I was also thinking of filling each drawer with some sort of instruction/activity to build up to Christmas - go to a Carol service, decorate the tree, make a gingerbread house etc.

I got ours from the local garden centre which also sells loads of christmas decorations. They were about £20 each - a train with drawers and a pile of presents with little doors. Something like this ?

I can't vouch for quality as I don't have one from Studio Cards, but these seem really well priced. They're probably not as robust as John Lewis/Lakeland/F&M etc but might be worth a look depending on your budget. I like the penguin and igloo one!

Amazon.

We have this one and it is lovely. Think I paid over £40 for it last year so it has come down in price. It has the drawers to put a treat in, and also little wooden decorations in each drawer to hang on the tree in the middle. Its a lovely thing.

The Amazon one is actually a Costco one, so if you have a card / know someone with a card you could get it cheaper than that. I bought this year's version for DD, which is basically the same but has Santa instead of a snowman at the top.

It's not wooden, but I've just got [http://www.amazon.co.uk/East-India-Bucket-Advent-Calendar/dp/B002RAGMDK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347575130&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 this] one for dd. I hoped that it would give me a little more space for her little presents, because they can stick out of the top, than drawers would allow. This year I'll be putting in a little plastic animal figure for each day (because I found a job lot in a charity shop and dd's too small to know they're second hand).
