ds, bless him, has made a thank you card for Father Christmas. He's desperate to actually send it. I know before Christmas Royal Mail post letters to Father Christmas... Is there anything like that still running?

You mean send it as in actually put it in the post box?
If so, dummy up another envelope as a substitute and let him post it... who cares where it will end up? Write another addressed to him with "oh what a lovely boy you are, I'm off for a long sleep now, don't write anymore letters till next December etc" and post it back to your house.
Put the original in his memory box so he in 10 or 20 years he can shriek with laughter at the lengths you went to and you can weep those happy sad tears that all mums weep remembering how lovely they were when they were little.
Enjoy him he sounds like a wee gemgrin
