Best family hotel: UK & Ireland

Woolley Grange - Bradford-on-Avon

The perfect combo of posh and relaxed

"If you're looking for a genuinely relaxed but emphatically 'treaty' place for a stay with the kids, you couldn't do much better than Woolley Grange. Decor is relaxed 'posh' but there are brilliant kid-friendly touches too - vintage fairground ride-ons scattered in the landings, towels made up into origami animal shapes hiding in corners - and there's a general sense that everything's sturdy enough to withstand a bit of kid."

Best self-catering: UK & Ireland

Clydey Cottages - Pembrokeshire, Wales

Mumsnet Best award winner for a second year on the bounce

"Holidays with young children can often not quite feel like a holiday - but that was not the case at Clydey! The facilities are superb and the staff are welcoming and friendly, and will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. We will most certainly return in the future."

North Hayne Farm Cottages - Bishops Nymphton,Devon

Fantastic on-site facilities and toddler meals to order - you won't need to leave

"There is so much on offer here to make a stay extra-special without needing to leave the farm. Our toddler loved meeting and 'looking after' the animals and enjoyed telling us about her important role on the farm! As a busy working family it was the perfect place to reconnect."

Court Farm - Bude, Cornwall

A welcome bottle of Prosecco and a pop-up pizza shop - what's not to like?

"All the child-focused activities meant there were lots of other kids around for my two to make friends with, and it's such a safe environment that I felt happy to let them roam! The pool was excellent and my DC were in there for over an hour every day."

Treworgey - Duloe, Cornwall

Escape the hustle and bustle at this relaxing cottage retreat

"Treworgey is a fantastic place which provides peace, beauty and tranquility, whilst also keeping the children happy, active and entertained. Whether it's animal feeding in the morning, the games room and indoor beach, tennis or riding lessons, our children never want to leave. The children's clubs on some afternoons are also a big hit and a great way to make friends."

Glynn Barton - Bodmin, Cornwall

Cracking location and plenty to keep toddlers entertained

"So much to amuse my twin boys: feeding animals, soft play, swimming pool, outdoor play, play room full of toys. We were made to feel really welcome and all had a great time. A perfect holiday for families."

Bosinver Farm Cottages - St Austell,Cornwall

Animal feeding, 'wild' kids' club AND a chance to hunt for the Gruffalo

"If you're looking for a child-friendly holiday in this area, just book a cottage - I can't imagine anyone not liking it!"

Three Gates - Huntsham, Devon

Welcome cream tea and a fantastic indoor pool

"Beautiful spotless accommodation and fabulous swimming pool. Three Gates Farm is a hidden gem in stunning countryside. Lynn and Jonathan have thought of everything - many thoughtful touches (they're very welcoming, kind and helpful). The information provided in the cottage about the local area is really helpful. We swam in the pool every day and we mostly had the pool to ourselves. The children had a lovely time outside in the play area and the beach is easily accessible."

Coombe Mill - Bodmin, Cornwall

A firm Mumsnet fave - it really does live up to the hype

"Within 10 minutes of arriving and unpacking, my four-year-old son and 22 month-old daughter were running through the fairy garden, bouncing on the trampolines, climbing on the pirate ship, chasing each other around the train track and playing pooh sticks on the bridge - and that was pretty much the way it stayed for the next week!"

Best hotel: Europe

Caserio del Mirador - Jalon, Spain

Let the kids make full use of the on-site toys and have someone else make them dinner - perfect

"The location is superb, food fabulous and all the baby/toddler extras mean you really do relax as soon as you arrive. Our toddler loves it - there is so much for them to do, but his favourite was his first taste of sitting on a horse and collecting eggs with Sarah. You are always greeted with a smile and a glass of wine, what more could any stressed out sleep-deprived parent wish for, eh? Precious family time and we've made some great friendships too."

La Bigorre - Charente Maritime, France

Cycling in the French countryside, BBQs, and a cheeky glass of red with lunch ... Bliss.

"The ideal place if you have small children who need to run around lots in a safe place. The setting is beautiful, the activities are endless."
