The Mumsnet guide to Mark Warner's Paleros Beach Resort

Paleros Beach Resort pool area

Mark Warner are renowned across Mumsnet for providing relaxing, hassle-free, sun-soaked family time – right on the beach. This year, they've opened the brand new Paleros Beach Resort on the western coast of Greece, and we've got the lowdown on why it's perfect for a family holiday

A quick perusal of our Travel forum will reveal Mumsnetters' long-standing love for Mark Warner holidays. With a whole host of family-friendly activities, so many locations to choose from, and expert childcare onsite, they guarantee a stress-free holiday experience for everyone.

The Paleros Beach Resort

Situated in a sheltered bay on the western coast of Greece and surrounded by olive groves, the Mark Warner Paleros Beach Resort will have you feeling like an extra in Mamma Mia (just with better facilities and fewer musical numbers). The balmy weather and warm Ionian sea make for ideal sailing and wind-surfing conditions, but they're also pretty perfect for sunbathing, too.

With two restaurants, expert childcare, three pools, and a mercifully short airport transfer, Mark Warner have the practical side of the holiday covered so you can enjoy hassle-free family time.

What activities are on offer at the Paleros Beach Resort?

One of the best things about any Mark Warner holiday is the huge range of activities on offer for all ages – and Paleros Beach Resort is no exception. Whether you fancy trying your hand at sailing, mountain biking through the stunning scenery, or the strenuous task of lazing by the pool with a good book, you'll find everything you need all in one place.

Children sailing

Here's a list of just some of the activities you can try your hand at during your stay:

On the water

  • Waterskiing
  • Wakeboarding
  • Sailing
  • Windsurfing
  • Kayaking
  • Stand up paddleboarding

On dry land

  • Tennis
  • Cycling
  • Fitness classes including sunrise and sunset yoga

There are also three pools – one adult-only, one children's, and one larger, mixed pool – a spa and gym onsite, and some seriously beautiful surroundings to explore in your own time.

“The adults-only pool is a lovely touch – I love my own kids but sometimes want to swim without an inflatable smacking me in the face.”

“I learned how to do so many new sports – all included (every morning I had a wind surfing lesson and also sailing lessons).”

How does Mark Warner childcare work?

Mark Warner is dedicated to ensuring your holiday is perfect for the whole family. With expert childcare for ages four months to 17 years (though four months to two years does come at an extra cost), you can wave your brood off in the mornings knowing they're in the safest of hands. There's loads to keep them busy, from books and quiet time indoors right through to 'Mini Sailing' out on the sea – whatever their age they're guaranteed to have a whale of a time.

Paleros childcare options are varied

Childcare is separated into morning (9am to 12.30pm) and afternoon (2.30pm to 5.30pm) sessions, and also into six age groups:

  • Baby Club (4-11 months)
  • Toddler Club (1-2 years)
  • Mini Club (3-5 years)
  • Junior Club (6-9 years)
  • Kidz Club (10-13 years)
  • Indy Club (14-17 years, peak season only)

Of course, safety is paramount, and a password is chosen for each child at the start of your holiday which will need to be repeated at pick up to give you that extra peace of mind.

There are also lots of options in the evening, including a supervised Movie Club for tweens and Snuggle Club for little ones.

All the extra details on Mark Warner's childcare and how it works can be found here.

“The childcare activities are always well planned and varied, and I love seeing my kids' groups wander through the resort on the way to sailing or sailboarding or swimming. You never feel far away as you see them pottering about and can go and see them anytime.”

“One or two nights mine go to the Movie Club – this means a movie, then their own little beds until we collect them. They're safe and entertained, and we can have a leisurely dinner together.”

“We were very pleased with the childcare, as were our children. We had a very hard time persuading our then four-year-old daughter not to be there all the time. They offer daytime and evening childcare in a camp type atmosphere. She loved it!”

Eating and drinking at the resort

With two restaurants and two bars located on site, there's lots to do even after the sun's gone down. When you book, you'll get five nights of half board dining with the option to upgrade to include lunch. The main restaurant is buffet-style, meaning you can choose to be as adventurous as you like. On the two nights off, you can take a wander down the coastal road to Paleros town to enjoy a seafront meal, or stick around for the BBQ cooked in the taverna onsite.

There's also a children’s high tea sitting each evening for babies and children aged four months to nine years between 5.15 and 6.15pm – perfect for the children who won't make it through to the buffet dinner at 7.30pm.

“High tea is a great idea – my two are often shattered after a full day of activities and swimming so an early supper is perfect.”

Room options at the Paleros Beach Resort

Although by the sound of things you probably won't be spending too much time there, Mark Warner's hotel rooms are designed with families in mind. Whether you opt for interconnecting double rooms (two totally separate rooms with an internal door between), a family room (one large room with an area including two sofa beds sectioned off by a sliding door), or an all-out family suite (two separate rooms each with a terrace area), you can rest assured there will be enough room for the whole family and all the kit holidaying with kids entails. All the room types can also take a travel cot if needed.

What do Mumsnetters like about Mark Warner holidays?

“What I love about Mark Warner is that, unlike lots of your cookie cutter all inclusive hotels, they truly are family holidays – there's lots to do for little ones, but teens are also well catered for.”

“We've seen the older children, too, and will definitely consider Mark Warner when ours are teens – they seem to get a great deal of independence in a very secure setting.”

“We’ve had amazing Mark Warner holidays. They're fantastic for parents to get some downtime and do water sports – I love these holidays as I love water sports and a little time to myself.”

“I can honestly say my children adore Mark Warner. I've found the child care teams very good all round and I think that's what the high price is about.”
