1. Bournemouth 

A trip to the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, Bournemouth offers a lot more than just art; its venue is an eclectic and highly unusual exhibit in itself. A combination of Italianate villa and Scottish Baronial architecture, East Cliff Hall looks out over a cliff-top as well as its beautiful grounds, which include a Japanese garden


2. Newcastle 

With exhibitions spread over five floors, the Baltic in Gateshead is a beautiful renovation of an old flour mill, which boasts a fantastic view over the River Tyne. It also has a dedicated area for children, plenty of activities for families, and a lovely rooftop café Baltic Flour Mill


3. London 

The Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park (featured in our 10 Reasons to Live in Wandsworth) is housed in a distinctive four-story, Grade 1 listed Victorian tower overlooking the lake. Not just a stunning venue, Pump House has been recognised internationally as a centre of excellence for the provision of contemporary visual art


4. Glasgow 

Right in the heart of Glasgow, the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is set in the 100 year old commercial and business exchange building. Its exhibitions celebrate the influences and methods of Glasgow's vibrant artist community, promoting the common exchange of ideas and inspiration


5. Newcastle

Though you won't find production lines of biscuits <sigh>, the Biscuit Factory, Newcastle houses the UK's largest art, craft, and design gallery, so there is plenty else to oggle at


6. London 

Ranger's House in Greenwich Park exhibits the Wernher Collection in an elegant Georgian villa. If you want to admire glittering jewels and treasures in a beautiful setting, this is the gallery for you


7. Exeter

Spacex in central Exeter is internationally known for exhibiting some of the most daring contemporary works, whilst offering exciting and innovative hands-on activities for all ages


8. Oxford 

OVADA Gallery, run by the Oxford Visual Arts Development Centre, presents fascinating exhibitions in a semi-industrial, city-centre warehouseGlasgow Gallery of Modern Art


9. London 

Arc Gallery, Tottenham's floating contemporary art gallery (it's in a boat!), specialises in exhibitions of African artists whilst doubling as a cultural meeting place for seminars, poetry nights, and other creative activities


10. Birmingham 

If you're looking to get creative yourself, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham offers an array of family workshops and fun days alongside its regular exhibitions
