Handing in notice tomorrow

I am handing in my notice tomorrow after receiving a job offer - hooray!

I have a four week notice period.

I am away on holiday between Monday 13 March - Friday 17 March so already have this week booked as annual leave.

I'd like to suggest my last day of work as Friday 17 March.

Do you think I should state the preferred date in the resignation letter or do you think I should say something like 'my last day will be Friday 24 March' in the letter and then suggest the 17 March when I give my manager the letter face to face in the office tomorrow?

I need to find out from HR what my actual annual leave entitlement is. I think I am owed six days holiday, so could take Monday 20th off as well.

4 weeks takes op to 24th - that's where that's come from.

Op, you can ask and see but contractually you are obliged to fulfil your notice period. If you want to shorten your notice and are happy to accept 3 weeks ' pay rather than 4, that's up to them to agree.

Depends what you do and how easy it is to resource your role in my experience.

That sounds a bit confusing. Your last day of contracted employment will be Fridayv 17th ..March. where does 24th March come into it. Do uou mean you want an extra week of leave, or are you hoing back for a week after your holiday. Am I missing something

If you want leave on the 17th just ask if that’s possible? “I understand I am contracted to 24/03 but if possible I would like to leave on the 17th’

As a PP said, I'd state "My last contractual day of work will be X but due to prebooked annual leave, my last working day will be X".

Worth finding out if you'll owe them any annual leave hours back though. Highly unlikely as it's end of March for a finish date but it could be a couple hours that you can either choose to pay back or work if they'll allow it.

I would add in leave already booked 13-17 and I would like to take owed leave on xxx days.

I'd say that my last contracted day is X (giving four weeks notice as per contract) but with X amount annual leave to take, my last working day will be X

Check with HR your entitlement and ask them to confirm your plan is acceptable. Then your boss will have no reason to have a problem
