Asked to apply for the job

My supervisor wants me to apply for her old job because I have covered it before so she doesn't really have to train anyone but said it would be a fair process. She would line manage me again. She initially said she would gets things removed from the role and see if she can employ more people.

Now she says they can't really remove much from the role or employ extra staff. My supervisor has on a number of occasions and said she felt burnt out and had a few days off or would drag herself to work when ill. In this role there are targets which cannot be missed as it would cost the organisation lost revenue if there were delays.

I don't see how things would drastically change if they won't get adequate resources. I really don't want to apply for the job, get it then feel burnt out but can't go back to my old role. I don't see why I should burn myself out just because she did. I would regret leaving my current role as some tasks I can postpone and not feel pressured if it is not done on time.
