eligible for furlough?

What are the conditions for eligibility for furlough?
My dh started a permanent job on the 9th March, is he eligible for the scheme?
If not, what will happen, are there no employment rights to protect him?

Can he ask the other company to re-employ him and pay him the 80% furlough pay?

I think it’s better he is laid off op and he can claim benefits and then they rehire when this is done. Has he spoken to them? For most companies this is likely to be over by early to mid may but hospitality social, airlines etc will probably be a lot longer.

Alternatively could he seek other employment during this period? Delivery, supermarket etc?

He was employed by another company right up until the 9th March when he was a new starter

I'm in the same position, op.
Started a new job in March and not eligible for the scheme. It sucks because I was employed in February and just happened to change jobs in Match. The scheme offers no protection for new starters.
I don't know where this date (29 Feb) comes from and what's the logic, it should apply to all employees no matter how long they have been with the company

You had to have been on the payroll on the 28th Feb. What was he doing then?

I’m sorry but no op, it’s employees as of 28 fen as others said, as he’s only been in the role three weeks, he has no protection, he should apply for benefits.

He needs to have been on the payroll as of 28th/29th Feb (can’t remember the exact one)

He also needs to be in a position whereby he would have been made redundant as a consequence of coronavirus.

Not because he’s self isolating, shielding, on long term sick. There has to be no work for him to do because of this virus. If he started after the end of Feb though he’s automatically ineligible.

No, he needed to be on the payroll on 28th February to qualify.

He needs to have a very frank chat with them to see if he can be kept on for any essential work this month (and be paid in full). He should then qualify next month.

He was working until Thursday last week, told he would be furloughed then told he didn't meet criteria for the scheme

Not this month but maybe next is my understanding. Is he still working or has he been laid off?
