Freelancing sites: which is the best apart from PPH?

Hello, I am already with People Per Hour and get an occasional trickle of work from them. This suits me fine as I am also working pt and developing other projects, but just want to build up my rankings and profile.

I was thinking of registering with another site so that I can also build up some work on there. Which one would you say is the best?

I do copywriting, proofreading and particularly want to get more into CV writing. Thanks.

By the way Jive, I tried Everyday People but it wouldn't let me sign up as I'm not Yorkshire based. It does look great and I wish there was a version for Notts. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a sign I should start my own!

I would second what Dove says. PPH used to be better but I now pitch directly too. I do use some freelance sites such as Twine, Bark and Weliketowork but most work is outside these. I'm still on PPH but have found it's recently become ever more a race to the bottom as it's more and more taken over by sellers from the developing world and the rates for jobs have plunged accordingly. It's no longer a viable option for European freelancers on the whole. I've also found the level of fraud and abuse of the platform has increased recently too. Upwork is the same and I would advise extreme caution on there as I was scammed and decided to come off.

I am chatting to a freelance web sales guy about his service which if it gets off the ground could be an alternative for us web design/graphic design/coder type people. I think there could be a place for a UK based free design/coding link up run by freelancers for freelancers with a curated offering so that clients can be assured of getting exactly what they pay for and rates are fair. After all who wants to be working for less than minimum wage?

That's true - food for thought, thanks. I have worked freelance for trade press in that way.

Although I do like the way that PPH handles all the billing/identity/security aspects...

I'd highly recommend pitching directly to clients instead of using freelancing sites. I started on PPH so know it's a good place to build your profile up, but then I put together a quick website and started pitching clients.

I now make in one day what I was making a week on PPH; doing round about the same hours.

Writers in Charge has some great info and a step by step guide to setting up and pitching.

Good luck!
