Wish I knew which rights I was 'hoarding'.

I was pleased to see him referred to as The Lammysaurus in Times comments, and very much hope that sticks.

I'm a little older than him too. When I started work I was working with women who'd had to fight for equal play and it was still legal to rape your wife. Damn right I'm hoarding.

That’s my MP.

Sadly he gets voted in every time as Tottenham is a very safe Labour seat.

Aside from the nonsense he spouts here he’s not a great constituency MP. He was involved in the Wards Corner property development fiasco and is hell bent on the gentrification of Tottenham with no thought where anyone who can’t afford the fancy 500k flats should go and live.

@PickAChew

Well, I 'm a little older than him and, in my youth, we didn't even have many of those rights we're apparently hoarding.

Grief knows that it was only this year that the European Court of Justice made a ruling on the grumbling Equal Pay issues that have been going on since the 70s.

There are women still fighting for the rights that were created in theory 50 years ago and which they've yet to benefit from. In what universe is this hoarding?

Lammy is significantly older than me and probably most people on this thread. His ageism is as misguided as his political career. We're the younger generation, David, and your misogyny is prehistoric.

Can anyone advise me on what my best option is a member of the Labour Party? I am on the verge of cancelling my membership (form filled in and ready to go) and Lammy's comments feel like the final straw.

But is there an argument for hanging on and supporting groups like Labour Women's Declaration and the woman (Bronwen?) who so bravely spoke up at the conference today. Genuinely unsure what I should do.

In fact that's one of the parts really bothering me the most today.

The endless shouting and demanding that women care about trans needs, understand how much they have to care, how important it is to empathise and understand how hard it is, the painful realities involved.

And all this caring must be done under the orders of smug, sneering people who could not care less and make it very clear: there will be no care whatsoever wasted on women. The message is: Give. Now. Expect nothing back, you don't deserve it.

My God have women made some really bloody awful mistakes in the past few generations on how we've raised our sons to have come up with men like this.

Just going to add a particularly enlightening bit of one of the best articles ever written for the 'education' of people like Lammy. Although I'm sure he doesn't care.

Someone said being a Black woman is being like a woman twice. But shame on Lammy - always an embarrassment when he's onTV/radio.

So we’re nasty old ‘dinosaurs’ for objecting to female erasure but he is allowed to get on with recognising males as a class and to seek support for their interests, and without being called silly names?

It's hypocrisy on acid.

The Pope story shows that David Lammy is even stupider than I had originally thought. Good grief.

I've just read the David Lammy Pope story. Ye gods. He's even thicker than I thought. It's very worrying that anyone might give credence to anything he says.

So many women just dont want to know. I have tried to talk to friends and they just dont want to hear it. Too busy, dont believe me, believe all the lies and mantras. The younger ones only read twitter and tiktok.

Red Toothbrush that is really interesting.

It seems as though their top core voters are women 18-24 at 65% and women 25-49 at 40%.
I think most 18-24 year old women are pretty captured by trans ideology but the 25-40 year old group are feeling the real world impact of it on their children and our disappearing rights.

Ugh no. I always really liked David Lammy. There’s no logic to his position here. So rightly he recognises black male underrepresentation in politics, that’s really important. Good. But by his own logic, how can he possibly draw that conclusion? How does he possibly know (if it’s all just an inner feeling) who’s male and who’s female? And yet of course he bloody knows. Everyone knows. And we all know sex discrimination is real. Inner feelings don’t prevent sex discrimination. We can’t tackle what we can’t name.

So we’re nasty old ‘dinosaurs’ for objecting to female erasure but he is allowed to get on with recognising males as a class and to seek support for their interests, and without being called silly names?

Eh? He thought BBC speculation on the colour of the smoke was speculation on the colour of the next pope??
