Here’s the details...

Sat, 11 May 2019
12:30 – 14:45 BST
Location

Central London
London

Description
The very worst of Lesbian erasure is upon us as our society embraces the mutilation of young lesbian bodies with chemicals and surgeries. How did we get here and how can we stop it?
Our panel is chaired by
Anne Ruzlyo, an Ex prison officer

Our panellists are:
Sheila Jeffreys: a lesbian feminist writer and activist. She taught sexual politics at the University of Melbourne, where she is now a professorial fellow, before retiring to the UK in 2015. She is the author of 10 books, and her latest is The Lesbian Revolution: lesbian feminism in the UK 1970-1990, 2018.
Julia Long: a lesbian - one of the old-fashioned kinds that doesn’t have a penis. She has worked in education, local government, academia and the women’s sector, and is currently a researcher in the field of male violence against women. Julia is a long-time Lesbian Feminist activist and her book Anti-Porn: The Resurgence of Anti-Pornography Feminism was published in 2012 by Zed Books. She is currently writing a book on how men have managed to convince so many people – including most ‘gender critical feminists’ - that there is such a thing as ‘transgenderism’. Julia has the great good fortune to live in Lesbian Feminist community and wants all women to know that this is possible. Her hobbies include sitting on chairs, eating pizza and naming men as men.
Dovile Lapinskaite: graduate in politics, philosophy and history of art, lesbian radical feminist, activist and independent artists.
Julia Beck: a writer and organizer from Baltimore, Maryland. She helps produce a monthly radio broadcast for Women's Liberation Radio News. Last year, she represented lesbians at Baltimore Pride and on the Law and Policy Committee of Baltimore City's LGBTQ Commission. She is currently at the fore of the fight for women's rights in the USA.

I haven't got the email! Not in junk folders either. I'm a genuine ticket holder. I realise Posie won't be in email. What shall I do?

Venue has been released by email, and I’m so excited! It’s in one and a half hours!!! I’m so glad I decided to come... but the Live Streams at Posie’s events are always great, if you aren’t coming, in person. Squeeee!

I’m going to this!!! I hope I’ll meet some great new friends, and I’m sure plenty of my old ones will be there, too. Feminism today is great, there are so many events going on, almost every weekend!

does anyone know if the event itself will last from 12pm to 3pm, or does that timing include the socialising afterwards?

@callmejudith I think they'll release details a few hours before the event is due to start

Going on my own as a first timer too, looking forward to it.

Also first time going alone. Alone but together! I'll feel better when I get there.

I'm going as a first timer, bit nervous!

I'm going. Today it's one of the things keeping me from barring the doors and windows and shutting down all contact with the outside batshittery.

hannah5 · 08/05/2019 13:23

Is this anyone's first time going to an event?
Is anyone going alone / doesn't know anyone?
Bit nervous but super excited too! Smile

Yes Shave she is hosting so that's fair enough, she does a lot of good with the profits. Posie is not asking just for donations, you do get something in return and the tickets weren't very expensive and they could be subsidised.

Oh shame Beer, good to know in advance so he doesn't get carried out on a chair himself, we don't want to have to get 7 police officers in to remove him!

What are everyone's travel plans? I've never been to one of these events where the venue is announced on the day. I guess I'll head into central London to be there about 30 mins before and go from there?

I agree ohholy

Heaven know dh has heard enough about it from me picketing my M&S bra department went Manfriday first launched.
Alone - I’m the only gender critical feminist in the village Grin
Stickering my local Waitrose and lobbying our local MP’s.
Do you know our local Labour candidate doorstepped us and when I asked him his position he said...and I quote “women’s issues isn’t really my thing”.

Anyway, dh is truly peaked and sources some fabulous articles for me.

We both like pizzas, chairs and lesbians.

I’ve emailed the organizers just to check- I don’t want him cramping my style.

On the flip side though it's better in my view that men are involved - my DH doesn't really talk to me about trans/feminism stuff and he hasn't got "skin in the game" but he has me and he should care enough to be involved, even if it's just a little bit...I often think it would be different if we had a daughter.

It's not fair that GC men are mostly heard whilst GC women are almost always silenced (GC men have been silenced too) and personally I think there is strength in numbers so the more genuine GC men who do give a shit about women, the better off we will be.
