Off on holiday abroad this week, first time in 5 years. I'm planning to do nothing except read and need some ideas please!
I love thrillers and books that are very easy to get into. I like Diane chamberlain and CL Taylor at the moment but feel like I just want to read something wonderful rather than something that's ok. Kate Atkinson, Curtis Sittenfield and Erin Kelley are other authors I like.

@Chelsea26 Sarum is one of my favourite books ever!

anything by Robert Goddard would be my other recommendation.

Another vote for The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex - it's clever, beautifully written, and haunting. I read it in one massive binge one Bank Holiday, because I couldn't put it down.

I have just read The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell. I really enjoyed it but this is the first one of hers that I have read. It does flit between 2017 and 2018, (why do so many books these days do that?) and I decided to read all the 2017 chapters in part 1 first, all together and then the 2018 ones, just to establish the stories and characters. Then I read part as it is printed. I couldn’t put it down.

I've just read Girl A. So two books now. Also fantastic, can't stop thinking about it. Disturbing and I need to talk about it!

I am Pilgrim is fantastic

If you like historical thrillers (very much based on fact) then any of Con Iggulden’s series are great, from memory he’s done Caesar, Genghis Khan and the War of the Roses - maybe another one too

I also love Wilber Smith

Slightly left field but there’s a book called Sarum which takes you from pre-historic times to the mid 1980’s through the stories of various families in Salisbury - that was epic!

If you wanted something lighter but easy to rattle through and entertaining Lee Child’s Reacher books are great beach reads I think!

Trip Fiction is good for fiction related to your location.

I'm rereading loads of Ruth Rendell's Wexford books at the mo - cheap on Kindle. Slightly dated in some ways but she is always superb on human nature and relationships and even the early books are a bit different from what you might expect.

I've finished it too, LOVED it!
Now reading The Thursday Murder Club, I'm enjoying it but you know when you've read a book that you've been totally lost in and the next one just feels… meh?

I've also finished The Heatwave that a pp mentioned - it's gripping.
Jodi Picoult is similar to Diane Chamberlain. I've also enjoyed some of Louise Candlish's.
