I need to change my brain before my body will change

Newyearnewarse · 25/02/2020 07:29

I have tried and failed for years to lose weight. And I am now the heaviest I have ever been.
It makes me sad and annoyed but I know if I don't change how my brain thinks that I will keep failing .

Does anyone have any suggestions of what could help ?
I have looked at some books but they do mostly come down to the simplicity of eating less and moving more.
Well if I could manage that I wouldn't be fat in the first place!

I have thought about how I use food and I think I use it too much as a treat. I need to really connect the idea that eating crap will make me look and feel worse.

All ideas gratefully received.

Ah, this is the thread I need!

Hello, all. I've had enough of being so fat and am now determined to slowly, sensibly, gradually become a slim person again.

Have found lots of suggestions here useful. Am going to sign up for myfitnesspal, and see how it goes. Also like the look of the 4 pillar plan - I lost a few kilos last year but the buggers all came back. This time it needs to be permanent.

@confusedyoungthing I think that is the type of thing I need , will have a look thank you.
@RubySlippers77 It is so hard to concentrate on anything isn't it ? I am however thinking that if I am going to be at home for months it is the ideal time to do something about this weight. However like you I turn to food and booze when emotional so it could be tricky.

I hope everyone is ok .

I don't know if anyone here yet has mentioned The Beck Diet Solution? It's a book, you work through it one day at a time and it's basically like cognitive behavioural therapy for weight loss. It's all about changing the way your mind thinks before it even gets you started losing weight. I lost 16lbs reading this last summer :)

The £100 is for six months - you can sign up monthly or for 6 month or 12 month programmes. I was really fat so I signed up for the whole year Blush

PS @Newyearnewarse - over £100!!! I thought it was supposed to be a reasonable cost?! Or that's what all their Facebook pop ups say...

How is everyone doing? Has the virus panic taken over from everything else?!

Have to say that I haven't given weight loss much thought at all recently although I need to but given that the DC will be off school soon, much Cake and Gin may be needed...

Thank you @Gemma2019 , I cancelled it a couple of days ago. I am glad I did as I didn't realise they would automatically have taken over £100 if I hadn't.

OP if you're not getting much out of the Noom trial, don't forget to cancel it before the two weeks is up, or you will be charged the whole amount and it's difficult to get any money back.

If you find the magic switch @Newyearnewarse please could you let me know where to find it?!

It is hard when you weight every day @cittigirl, I had to stop myself as it was too depressing. 3lb in a week is great though!

Sorry, that doesn't make sense. I've gained 1.5lb. I need to stop weighing every day I know

Well done @cittigirl that is amazing !
Sadly I am feeling more like @RubySlippers77 just now. I wish I could flick a switch and stop wanting to eat crisps and bread.

Back to trying again today. Will keep looking for some motivation or that magic switch Hmm

I am very far away from being ready to start losing weight Sad just can't stop eating!! I think it was originally the antibiotics and after two weeks it's become a habit. I have to start soon though - fed up being the fat mum at school!

Morning , I fell off the wagon over the weekend , went away with a friend. Was great fun but too much food and booze!

Back to it today , I downloaded the Noom app a week or so ago but I haven't really got on with it.

How is everyone doing ?

How is everyone doing? I've slipped up a couple of time. Self sabotage definitely 🤦‍♀️. But on the whole not doing too badly considering. 5 days in, countless to go

Glad it wasn't just me @cittigirl Grin

Enormous food shop done, but some of the bags are still waiting for me to put them away... just didn't have the energy after a looooong day with the DC and then getting home late. But plenty of veg in the house now which should help - sadly not much fruit as they didn't have much choice. I miss summer fruit like strawberries and raspberries!

I've just googled and they're 10 calories each so I'm not too concerned.

Yes that's what I'm doing ploughingthrough. Apart from 3 mints this morning 🤦‍♀️. I drink fruit tea or black coffee. Im definitely less sleepy. I usually eat between 12 and 8 too.

I have had success with intermittent fasting. First time I've ever lost weight properly. I eat between 12-8 - 2 meals and a bit of fruit in between. Things I have completely stopped are hoovering up kids leftovers, cakes, biscuits, treats and booze. I do moderate exercise but nothing mega. I have dropped 9 kilos taking me down to 10 and a half stone and I feel pretty good. I've had to get used to being hungry in the morning but I am okay with it now.

I remember RubySlippers77 😉

My DD wasn't toooo bad thankfully. I managed to just about stay within calories, maybe just over. So far today, I've had 3 mint imperial's which my boss gave me a bag of 😂 . Hopefully they're not too calorific. I've been surviving on stirfry and a salad and avocado wholemeal wrap. Oh and greek yoghurt with berries. I know I need more protein though so once I've finished these wraps, I'll swop those calories for protein.

I'm sorry you're suffering with your ears. It is rotten. Don't do what I do and think sod it, I may as well eat a load of rubbish and start again another day. Take each hour at a time. ( If I listened to my own advice, I wouldnt be overweight) 🙄

How did it go with your teenager @cittigirl?!

I was having a little cry this morning whilst eating chocolate as I still cannot resist eating crap at the moment. I feel so rotten with this ear infection, get exhausted very quickly and have no motivation to lose the weight that I need to.

On the bright side it did make me realise that I felt good before this episode of illness and had plenty of energy!! Plus the cheque I was waiting for finally cleared, means I can go food shopping again. I feel like Adrian Mole's mum when she finally received her giro, for anyone old enough to remember that Grin

Thanks womanaf

I had a tricky morning but I've managed not to sabotage which is a bit of a miracle considering. So far, so good. I just have to keep it up when my teenager comes home. I may need to gag myself 🙄

I love the pinch of non recipes. I have both books and they are my go to at the minute.
