I've lost over 3 stone and I'm still fat!

I've gone from 14 stone 6 to 11 stone 4 over the last 6 months and I'm still fat!

If you'd offered me a weight loss of that much I'd have bit your hand off and thought I'd have looked amazing, but I don't. Still carrying loads round my thighs, butt and stomach, so demoralising.

Yes, and it’s wrong. Plenty of slim people have weak bodies! The problem with the goal of losing weight for looks reasons is that you rarely end up looking like the image you have in your head.

Totally agree, but it's nice to look slim as well as those benefits! Isn't that how most others assess our health anyway, how slim you are rather than how many stairs you can climb without wheezing?

OP, you’ve done great. But you have to stop thinking in terms only of how it looks. Is that why you’ve done it? Because honestly what you’ve really achieved is better health, better movement, the ability to build strength and stamina. A longer and more comfortable life. Surely those things are far more valuable than looking slim?

Keeping on keeping on! Am more encouraged this morning as I've checked my measurements and have lost 10 inches from my waist, which is brilliant.

Next target is to get below 11 stones as I'll be out of the overweight BMI then. Keeping on keeping on!

Well done coffee you should be very proud of your weight loss!

I’ve lost 2 and a bit stone this year after deciding in January that enough was enough. I started running, and do a calorie counted low carb diet. I was amazed at first how hard it is to exercise and how few calories it burns (and how hungry it makes me so I could basically eat all the calories and more back if I wasn’t careful). My weight loss has plateaued in the last few months but the running has meant that my shape has changed so dramatically. I would honestly recommend increasing your exercise to something longer than HIIT, or even incorporating a HIIT style into a running regime (such as 2 min run, 1 min walk). Your PT will push you further than you might push yourself.

We have a number in mind about where we want to end up with our weightloss, but If like me you’ve always been overweight, i didn’t know what 10 stone looked like, or what was required to achieve it or keep it there. I’m not there yet but I know I want to lose a bit more and I’m not giving up now!!

Keep up the hard work and be kind to yourself. You have done brilliantly. Flowers

I also wanted to thank you for starting this thread. There's clearly a few of us in the same situation me included and hopefully we can all get something from the replies you receive.

Some great encouragement folks, thank you for sharing! I took my measurements before starting to lose weight and have been pleased with the inch loss. I think when I start training with weights I'm going to focus more on toning up and getting a better shape and not worry whether I lose weight or not.

Wow Wildernessie that is a very inspiring achievement! Congratulations!

And thank you again Frosty for the encouragement. It truly is appreciated. (And yes, feel very lucky about horse, been saving up/seeking the right one for over six years.

I'm currently a shameful 88 kilos (nearly 14 stone) and I want to get back down to roughly 66 kilos (10, 3 stone). I'm very "slim" build with narrow hips and shoulders so carry all weight before me as it were!! Grin I'd be happy with a 3 stone loss though.

hey thanks and good plan Frosty- resistance training is the best, some dumbells you can start small and add to as you get stronger-plus more muscle means a higher resting BMR. Get on the protein(im a strict veggie so kind of pay attention to this) and make sure you have a couple of shakes a day to feed growing muscle-i mix psyllium powder in my nightime one-curbs hunger pangs and gives a good clean out lol(psyllliums great for other stuff too)unfortunately my legs look a bit dodge as have spider/varicose veins frm being preggers but cant have it all haha..feeling physically able and strong is all the inspiration i need..wish i could get my couchspud DD motivated!! Good luck

@wildernessie wow that’s impressive! I can’t wait to be able to wear things that show my arms and legs again. I’m hoping losing 1 more stone and doing some weights exercises will tone me up

I found after losing 3 stone (in 17 weeks 1300 cals day with a bit of extra dog walking)that i was so chuffed to be feeling lighter and felt so full of energy (but not wanting to be tied to gym commitment )i decided to get a second hand rowing machine and do 30 mins a nite. Also do squats/calf raises and kicks in kitchen/bathroom when im waiting for kettle to boil or microwave or brushing teeth..made a big difference to arm tone/core & back..Its a mad feeling being able to reveal toned arms after so long of wearing a cardi over everything..

I’m sure you can do it. How many stones do you want to lose?
A year of hard work and you can be feeling healthy, fit and strong 💪🏼

Also - should say - have just bought DD a horse which is intended to be mother/daughter share. He's a big weight-bearing lad, so I can ride him now (infrequently) but would feel much more comfortable (and fitter) if I lost weight! So have a fantastic incentive!

Thanks again Frosty I've seen the fit and fearless podcasts because I subscribe to Radio 5 live's brexit cast.

Park 10 mins away by car. I do walk the dog early and late in this heat!

Need to be more focused on what calories going in and going out and need to shake off "holiday" mentality!

@scoop is there a park near to your house? I’ve still been walking 5 Miles in the heat but I go to the park and walk by the trees to keep me in the shade. There’s no way I could exercise in this heat otherwise. I also listen to podcasts on my phone when I walk and they help the time to pass more quickly. Some good ones are The Food Medic, and The Fit and Fearless ones

Thanks, i’ll Check that out. I already do HIIT workouts on YouTube (usually The Body Coach Ones) but I think I need to do ones that include weights like you say to help tone me up.
A size 10 is fab! I think you’re right that we’re often too hard on ourselves and feel defeated when we don’t have the toned bodies we see in the media. It’s quite depressing really

@Frosty66612 Sorry, should add - since Jan I've been regularly doing these workouts with weights - all low impact but hardcore. I now feel super strong, my legs and arms are very toned and I can see definition lines when flexed - they don't wobble any more. Lost quite a few inches off both.. it does work but be consistent!

I have Coffee! Actually started a month or so ago and then rl got in the way (dh illness - he's fine now). Need to start again - made a chart detailing how much weight loss I wanted to achieve over what period of time - but might need to adjust that down to make it more realistic now. Also have recipes, pedometers, walking for fitness books, new walking boots etc.
Just need willpower which has gone awol somewhere in this heat!

@Frosty66612 I also don't go to the gym - I hate it!!
I follow work outs on Youtube - hit training with weight and then different weight workouts. Get yourself a yoga mat and some dumbells and ankle weights. PopSugar on Youtube is a great place to start. Bear in mind that you'll need to do about an hours worth 3+ times a week to really see a difference. A lot of the videos are short bursts so repeat!

I'm a size 10 now, having lost about a stone in the last 6 months (was 12-14). I'm pretty short and have wide hips and big stomach (slim arms, legs and chest area). I still look in the mirror and think I look fat and am so gutted as I thought this was my target. Are we as women just being far too hard on ourselves? Are we used to tearing ourselves down in the mirror perhaps?

@Spanish I don’t want to go the gym to do weights so would you recommend me maybe getting some dumbbells and a kettlebell etc to do stuff at home?

Now is probably the right time to start weight lifting to readjust where the weight is sitting on your body. You can walk as many steps as you want, or run for miles on a treadmill, but weight training is the most effective by far at sculpting your body. You may put some weight on as you gain muscle, but your measurements will decrease.
