Psychological tricks for weight loss

I read a book about weight loss once that suggested you give the part of you that tries to sabotage your weight loss a name you really hate.

You know, that voice that says "Oh go on...eat the cake, we'll start the diet tomorrow" or "One pizza won't hurt, we've earned it".

I called mine Belinda. And then when I started self-sabotaging would tell 'Belinda' silently so not to attract stares to shut up and stop trying to trick me and to get back in her box.

(Sorry anyone called Belinda).

Have you come across any psychological tips or tricks that have helped with weight loss? I'm really needing them at the moment!

Another one here using smaller plates and bowls. Most importantly planning ahead and being more inspired with vegetables and legumes. Also being thoughtful and remembering the saying that goes ..." nothing tastes so good as being thin feels..." Swap the word thin for something else (healthy & slender). What reinforces all this for me is not being bored and staying intouch with my emotions and dealing with that rather than turning to food or wine!

I am looking for ways to try to stop myself from binge eating. Might try the name thing.

I would also appreciate any tips. I start well and then end up self-sabotaging...

I should definitely do that, I use far too big a bowl for my cereal and I'm pretty sure I'm eating double the recommended serving!

Smaller plates. Avoid those enormous bowls and huge dinner plates, because you have to serve two helpings onto them to make them look full - and you'll inevitably clear the plate. I basically eat all my meals on side plates and am convinced it makes a difference to my portion control.
