Weight comes straight back on...

I spent two weeks focusing hard on losing some weight, and lost 8 pounds.

Then I relaxed for a week. I didn't stuff my face, just ate more than fish and vegetables. It's ALL come straight back on. Back to my obese default weight.

And this always happens to me. It seems I can deprive myself and lose weight, or eat what I like within reason and be fat.

There doesn't seem to be any 'way of life' diet that appeals to me. I like carbs, so there's no point kidding myself I can live with high protein. Is there any way forward?

I'm not talking about gaining 4lbs in two weeks thought lorelei as I said at the end of my post 'the last half a stone is a bastard' and it is!
I mean when you've gained 3 stone like I did, I had to accept that wasn't coming off quickly as I had gained it over a period of time.
My weight can fluctuate by 4lb in a day, as can everyones.

Repent, just to say, I started this thread - just in case it helps you.

Wicks "This is what you need to remember smileit didn't go on in a fortnight, and it ain't coming off in a fortnight either"

sorry but these are the comments that annoy me. In my case it doesn't come off quick but it can come on incredibly fast. My last holiday my friends were mystified by how I was eating (carefully) but that's because on the previous one where I didn't overeat massively but just didn't worry, I gained 4lb in 2 weeks and it took fecking months to get rid of it.

I won't go into how quickly I gained the weight I'm trying to lose atm but suffice to say the doc tested my thyroid. I think particularly when you get into territory where medications are involved and you're anything over about 35, it's not simple and everyone's got to find their own way.

It always comes off quickly in the first two weeks, mainly fluids. But! This is what you need to remember Smileit didn't go on in a fortnight, and it ain't coming off in a fortnight either. A realistic weight loss goal no matter what diet (I did it with 5:2, lost 3 stone and have kept it off now for 3 years) is 2lb per week, sometimes less. As you become smaller, the weight loss also becomes smaller. The last half a stone is an absolute bastard to shift!
Keep on going, you'll get there but it takes time. Measure your body too, I lost inches even when the weight didn't seem to move.

Repent, I am more overweight than you and I don't lose that. But looking at what you ate, it is incredibly low in calories - maybe about 800?

I think I lost 4lb one week when I had noro. Other that than, I lost loads of weight when I broke my back but it was mostly muscle. Plus it's not a method I recommend, obvs!!

On average the human body fluctuates by about 5lbs daily.

Here's a great article explaining it: greatist.com/live/why-your-weight-fluctuates-5-pounds-per-day?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_content=story1_title&utm_campaign=daily_newsletter_2016-07-19_mails_daily_new_header

So it's highly likely that your initial 8 lb weight loss was mostly water, and a "relaxed week" of salt and carbs means your body has soaked it all back up.

A balanced healthy diet will not see massive amounts of weight loss right away, it's a marathon not a sprint. Keep eating healthy. Get exercise. Don't get discouraged if you eat a piece of cake and you will eventually see results.

I also recommend only weighing once a month.

I think it's that I am very overweight - 135lbs, so it always drops off quickly initially. I'm two days into trying again, and I'm just going to have to be strict with myself!

I have porridge for breakfast made with water, and cinnamon on top. Then I just eat lean meat/fish for other two meals with veg.

PS I do think that losing 8lb in 2 weeks is a lot - I could never lose that much but perhaps you were better at being restrictive than I am.

I don't know if this will make you feel better - !! - but i'm in the same position and I work out a lot. I actually have to be careful because I'd enjoy working out more but I then get so hungry I gain weight. My ex used to be insanely fit and he tried taking it up yet another notch, but then he was really hungry and quite frankly, got bored with the amount of extra protein he needed to fuel the workouts.

I am also a carb person, which is fine with regular workouts, but I'm quite amazed how fine the balance is.

I find it's age. My metabolism's shot. In my twenties, I could munch all week long, skip dinner on Saturday & be in my tight jeans that night. Now I gain a lot easier than I lose, yet I eat far less rubbish...

Can you increase your exercise level-substantially?
I could be you, right down to loving carbs. In the last 10 months I've come down 3 dress sizes from exercise alone. Not a gentle walk or a couple of classes a week, but by serious gym work almost every day.
I've not changed my eating habits consciously, but so do find I often make more sensible choices about food these days.
I still have a long way to go but this is what's working for me.

I think this is true.
You don't need to binge on 15 burgers and 25 packets of crisps, to suddenly find that as soon as you ease up, even ever so slightly, a lot goes on.
I don't know the science behind it. Maybe a poster can explain it to us. But I do know that generally, it is very very hard to lose weight and very very easy to put it back on.
Why is that?

Don't give up. Cut back atleast a bit. see where that takes you.
