I'm looking to start baby led weaning in the next month with my son.

What was the first thing your baby ate? I'm not sure what to start with. He will be 5.5-6m.

PenguinsAreAce · 13/03/2016 20:21

One was steamed broccoli, another a bit of banana, and I think one grabbed a slice of pizza...

Pyjamaface · 13/03/2016 20:23

DolorestheNewt · 13/03/2016 20:34

Baby rice and pureed pear
If you're talking finger food, banana I think

Passmethecrisps · 13/03/2016 20:37

A slice of melon I think. She didn't eat it though. Just sucked on it

ColeslawSandwich · 13/03/2016 20:40

Cucumber that she stole from my hand. Then cauliflower purée.

2tired2bewitty · 13/03/2016 20:41

Dd2 snatched a hot dog bun out of my hand while I was discussing with a friend when I was going to start weaning - that'll be now then Grin

MumOfTheMoment · 13/03/2016 20:43

Dc1 - A whole peeled banana. He thought he had died and gone to heaven judging by the look on his face. The photos make me melt every time I look at them.

Dc2 - can't remember Blush

elevenweekstogo · 13/03/2016 20:45

Little sucks and chomps of mushed strawberries.

(He screamed all night for what seemed like hours, this wasn't uncommon for him, he's always been a bad sleeper but by goodness I didn't give him strawberries again for months!)

MyBreadIsEggy · 13/03/2016 20:46

A sweet potato wedge that she swiped from her dad's plate when she was 5.5mo! Blush She still loves them now!

BeBesideTheSea · 13/03/2016 20:48

A chip he grabbed from my plate Blush

SmallBee · 13/03/2016 20:49

Carrot puree. She looked at me like like I was trying to kill her.

notagiraffe · 13/03/2016 20:49

A piece of feta from the lamb and feta pita I was holding. I was carrying him round a food market in a sling and he just kept helping himself. Very salty but he loved it. It was so cute.

BeBesideTheSea · 13/03/2016 20:50

Snap Pyjama - cheeky little things aren't they!

EmzDisco · 13/03/2016 20:53

Started BLW two weeks ago, first meal she had bits of roast dinner - potato, carrot, parsnip, broccoli and chicken. She sucked a bit of it, squished most of it in her little fists, and chucked what was left on the floor. Thoroughly enjoyed it! We chose it as we love it and meant we could try a few things at once to see how she reacted and experiment with size of pieces, softness etc.

She's getting the hang of swallowing it now, two weeks in. I know it doesn't suit everyone but can't imagine spoon feeding her. It's so much messy fun!

CMOTDibbler · 13/03/2016 21:00

A ripe pear - I nibbled the skin off for him a bit at a time. Then corn on the cob

HorseDentist · 13/03/2016 21:09

Cheese and pickle sandwichBlush
He grabbed it from my plate when I went to answer the door to the postman. Almost 1/4 gone when I came back 2 minutes later. He was only 5 months!

Her dad's crumpet. Stolen off his plate...

Roast chicken dinner with butternut squash and mashed tattie. No gravy.

Pinkheart5915 · 15/03/2016 22:24

Stick of cucumber. Ds loved it

HippyPottyMouth · 15/03/2016 22:27

Crumbs of chocolate muffin that fell on her face while she was feeding. The first thing I gave her on purpose was a slice of melon. She did a stellar job of it considering she had no teeth.
