Nice London hotels with a view and swimming pool?

DS would like a night in a very nice London hotel (with us) to celebrate his 16th birthday in July.

As we live 20 minutes by train from central this is not something we'd normally spend money on but as it's been an "interesting" year and as we don't feel comfortable with going abroad on holiday this year we have a bit of spare cash.

I think he'd really like a hotel with really good views over London and a swimming pool. Despite my initial excitement, our budget doesn't stretch to the Ritz or the Savoy but don't want to spend a lot of money for a hotel that ends up being just "ok".

Any suggestions?

If you’re going at the weekend you can usually get some amazing deals on hotels in the city rather than the West End. So city/river views and quite a lot have a pool and gym. I stayed in one a few years ago but can’t remember which one!

The Park Plaza at County Hall would tick your boxes for views if you ask for a London Eye view but it doesn't have a swimming pool.

It's sister hotel which is literally across the road is the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge also has some rooms with lovely views across the South Bank towards the London Eye and also has a pool and spa.

I was going to suggest Park Plaza County Hall too.

The shard has both and a pool with a view. But probably ££££.

The curtain in shoreditch is very quirky and 'cool' with a rooftop pool. Love it.

I also second either park plazas too

Leonardo Royal next to St Paul’s has a pool and great views of the cathedral from some bedrooms - it was very very quiet last summer though because of covid so you might want to check the facilities are all up and running before you book.

Aloft London Excel. Swimming pool and some rooms have great views. Not very central though!

The Ned is amazing at Bank. You have to book a certain room type to access roof top pool and restaurant. There is an amazing indoor pool and spa in the basement. On the ground floor loads of different restaurants. Quieter at weekends which is good. Also Shoreditch House if you book a room you access to all the members areas including outdoor pool. House kitchen is great for food and loads of stuff going on in Shoreditch for a 16 year old.

The Ned. Rooftop swimming pool do check if it is for the use of hotel guests (as they also have a private members club that definitely has use of it).

They were doing really good NHS discount packages after lockdown 1 if by any chance you work for them.

The Ned looks great and I'd love someone to take me there but I suspect DS would like something a bit more light and bright.

Going to ave a good look at your other suggestions. Such a pain I can't just pop on the train and have a proper look at these hotels!

The Park Plaza London Riverbank is often overlooked in favour of their Westminster and County Hall properties, but it does have nice views in some of the rooms as well--although a bit downriver from the others.

Sea Containers have some stunning views from the rooms, no pool unfortunately, but a nice sauna/steam room area. I would definitely recommend some drinks in their rooftop terrace, even if you don’t stay there, daytime 16yo would likely be allowed entry.

Have you thought about Novotel Canary Wharf? I’ve stayed there for work quite a lot, and the views are stunning, because it’s CW you see out across so much of London. It’s very reasonably priced, has a fantastic pool and a great breakfast with stunning views. You’ll get a fantastic rate there now I expect with lower business travel.

Corinthia hotel has the best spa/pool area I’ve ever used but it is pricey, particularly for a room with a view. But I would definitely recommend it!

Another recommendation from me would be the Pestana Hotel & Spa at Chelsea Bridge. It's a bit further out and doesn't meet your criteria for stunning views but the quality of the rooms is superb and there is a gorgeous pool and spa area. It also has the best hotel breakfast ever - my kids still talk about it, especially the pancake machine!

@ChequerBoard Don't think there will be breakfast buffets at hotels for a very long time yet even when reopen this year

@rattlemehearties I am not offering or promising the OP a breakfast buffet whenever it is that she chooses to book her stay in London. I am simply recommending a nice hotel, backed up with a recollection of pleasant memories of a family stay there.

Hotel recommendations are what the Il asked asked for - what's the point of your post?

Thanks everyone. I've booked the Shangri La at the Shard By staying Sunday night rather than Saturday, I have got a brilliant deal. Very excited. Hope I can keep it a secret until July!
