Hi, my lovely niece has just been diagnosed with dysplasia of the hip. In a couple of weeks' time, she will be spending a week in hospital in traction, then she will be operated on and spend at least four weeks in a big cast. I think she'll be able to sit up, but not move about at all. She's going to be horribly bored, and I'm racking my brains to think of something that will keep her occupied. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you very much.

Thank you both for your helpful suggestions. I think stuff on an iPad or similar is a great idea, but not something I can do for her because I'm currently living in the States (and therefore feeling guilty that I'm not able to help out Sad). Lots of little things sounds like the way to go, and if I wrap them she can have fun opening them.

Thanks again.
