dpony now has mud fever on his tum - any ideas?

Bless him, he mad it till 3 weeks ago till his legs went, and they've not got any worse at all since the muddy buddy/hypocare/sudocreme regimen started. But today he had a right snot on, and investigation showed that he had 5 small areas of mud fever by his sheath.

Its been hypocared and plastered in sudocreme, and he's gone back out without a rug so theres nothing rubbing and I wondered if his (no fill) rug was making a bit of a damp enviroment.

Any other ideas? He doesn't have a stable, so bringing him in is a last option

I came home covered in mud yesterday and I'd only popped in to give evening hay. Dhorse had trashed the electric fence again and was in the 'spring' grass (now all gone ) but he was too stupid to work out how to get back out until I'd walked along the other side of the fence in the deep mud/water. Just as I reached him he did an enormous leap over the fence looked fab and came belting past spraying me with muddy water. Horrible animal!

We've had torrential rain/hailstones here as well but luckily ds just got his sat morning lesson before it turned again so he was a happy boy.

It was vile here on Sat afternoon, but the morning was so windy it wasn't funny. Sunday was sunny, but like frosty its a mud bath out for us. And as ds needs accompanying hacking I would be plastered.

Had to laugh at a group (known as the fast and furious as the YO likes to go really fast out and the others are up for it) who went out, returning with the third in the group plastered from toes to top of head in mud splats where they'd been cantering up the ptp training tracks.

Where are you Craggy - Saturday was ok in the morning but then a combination of hail & sleet in the afternoon, and Sunday was ok weather wise but the ground is so sodden there's nowhere to canter - jealous......

This weekend was so lovely though

dd2 took dpony2 for a really long hack with some lovely long canters in the sunshine

it was almost warm grooming them yesterday

Craggy, yes possible on his neck, though I think people usually call it rain scald on back/neck.

Fed up with rain, fed up with mud. Its this time of year you have to keep the faith that its all worth while. Disgusting rug in the washing machine now, then our waterproofs (vile), and the pile of towels for dog/pony drying after that.

I have taken off his neck cover and sprayed him with hypocare

Dhorse is covered in it, up his legs and along his shoulders, belly and flanks. I have been given Maloseb and told to use it once a week - wet the area, massage in the undiluted shampoo and leave it for 5 minutes before washing off. He's had 3 washes and the lumps and bumps are going down at last. I should think what you've done is fine, assuming it's not weeping or actually open, just keep a close watch!

It's terrible and I've had enough!
