What are your horsey New Year resolutions?

Happy New Year Tack Roomers! Does anyone have any horsey resolutions?
DD1 wants to start ODEs this year on her new pony.
DD2 wanted to go hunting on her own on dpony,which she achieved yesterday,and to win more trophies than her sister did last year.
Mine is to practise my plaiting so they don't resemble hairy golf balls.

Dd1 wants to do an 90cm ode and do more dressage
Dd2 wants to hunt (on the lead rein at first) and win a 70cm sj class
Dd3 wants to do a 1'9 Xc course

I want to try and remain calm, stop being too nervous to watch, pass my towing rest and learn learn learn...

Sell our beloved roan LR Section A to a good home who'll appreciate him.

Buy a 13 hand SHP for DD to bring on for 2015.

Make sure she gets a ride at the Royal International.

To ride more myself - not sure how achievable this will be.

Most of all to enjoy our ponies and to realise how blessed we are that DD is keen - at least for now.

So for me, compete in my first dressage comp, while continuing to polish and improve my riding..........

Look into ponies for DS coming out of winter....quite a scary prospect, but exciting at the same time.

To get fit enough, and regain enough confidence, to take my horse out sj/xc now that DD is working full-time and won't be able to compete as much (she took over my mare more or less completely about three years ago when hers did a tendon and since then I have been relegated to ride groom status). Mare is far too good to pootle about doing a bit of hacking/schooling but she is very sharp and I've lost a hell of a lot of fitness/strength/flexibility/balance.

I have ordered a gym ball and my goal is to book some jumping lessons over the next few months and get my backside back into the arena!

I want to introduce the ponies to camping. I own a trekking business and there is a big market out there for it. So doing overnighters once a month probably with two ponies at a time, so five days of camping a month. Also want to get the foals used to goats and ducks, two things they are are both most definitely nervous of from a distance.

Dd2 hunted, came straight off the lead rein and jumped a hedge today so that's that ticked off

Have the baby due early April then get back competing. Jump at least Newc with 2 and BN with 1. Get my 2 babies lightly backed. Try and not take things too seriously and have fun

Mine is to do some more competing after getting back to it this year and loving it. I'd like to be jumping some bigger courses, 3' plus, by the end of the year, but mostly I just want to have fun with it, and learn as much as I can.

I would like to do some more regular jumping so that hopefully it becomes less exciting for my little connemara. Would like to do a couple of 2ft 3 one day events and if we can get the showjumping sussed have a go at 2ft 6. Lofty ambitions for me as 2ft6 looks enormous to me as a 40year old on a 13.3! It would also be lovely to get the flatwork a bit more consistent when working away from home.

Want to start riding regularly again. Havent ridden my WB for 3 months.

Then I aim to find some tack for the lovely little TB I got given last summer and ride her too. She escaped this morning and was floating round the yard tail in the air, teasing the boys. Am hoping to do dressage with her as she moves so beautifully. Think she might be a rather electric ride, even though she is pint sized (15HH)

Mine is to canter on a hack without it being a Big Deal. This is quite a low expectation, but one I haven't yet managed to achieve as an adult.

Lose lots of weight so that my horse doesn't have to work so hard.
Work on riding horse correctly so that he can build topline and not injure his back again.
Learn how to do more in-hand training.
Get these darn elbows to open and close in the trot!

Mrs L, sorry didn't want to derail thread but to briefly answer your questions.. He's a strawberry roan Section A and measures 11.2. We've owned him for 6 years now and he's just turned 14 on 1st Jan. As a younger pony he had a successful showing career on the lead. His biggest win was in the Lobster Pot final at PUK and he was a good county level M&M. The main thing was that he taught DD to ride well. She eventually went off the lead on him and did a first ridden few shows, did Pony Club and some minor jumping on him. She also went to a few hunt meets on the lead. He will happily follow another horse hacking and, because he's a little lazy, he is very safe and the perfect transition pony for somebody wanting a lead rein who will then go off. However he is not a proper first ridden pony because he is not the sort of pony a child could get on and just canter away by themselves. He likes to be with people and also he is not a huge jumping enthusiast although he does cross poles without a problem. I think he'd suit somebody with a child about 3 to 5 years old and will last them until they are about 7 or 8. We're not looking for much for him but won't give him away or lease him because quality ponies who are safe are valued. He's obviously outgrown now and hasn't been ridden for a year. He is being used as a paddock companion for our Show Pony this Winter but for sale from end of February. He is stabled at night now but happily lives out in the Summer.

I'm trying to get some official qualifications under my belt...so stage 2 booked for early this year...just spent 30min schooling with no stirrups and off to do another 30min this afternoon...I'm really not fit enough for this at the moment ...

Hello. My resolution is to manage to keep my ponies as our business is doing quite badly and they are a bug expense. We have two and three children who ride.

I'm hoping to get back on a horse! I've totally lost my confidence. Even holding a horse on a lead rope can cause me to shake! (Disclaimer:ambulance went past. Horse span. Not mine. Terrified he'd bolt and hurt himself. Horse has lots of serious medical issues!)
