Hi I worked in a college for 20 years and asked my DOL for a reference which he gladly agreed to give! My supply agency rang me to say that my reference was good but he had mentioned my disciplinary final written warning that I got 14 years ago! He said I left a group of students unsupervised while doing their student survey! I actually got a final written warning for sitting in the room while the students independently did their survey and let them do it honestly on their own I should have done it with them! So that was wrong my DOL was not my DOL by several years at this time and also my principal after 18 months said that the warning was spent and would not go on my record and apologised for me having to go through that! At the time I had an NEU lawyer who brought up several areas that the college did not have in place and that's why they gave me the warning and could not dismiss me though that was never on the cards anyway! I have been an exemplary Head of Dept since then with outstanding results every year! The agency said that the references were polar opposite to each other and they knew I was a good teacher but advised me to get another reference in future! I'm so hurt by this as my DOL would have had to look this information up and why would he put this on my reference in the middle of a pandemic when it's so hard to get work! Is there anything I can do about this as it has made me look really unprofessional? I have asked him but he is ignoring my emails! He has recently been promoted to assistant principal so maybe the power has gone to his head! I feel like 20 years meant nothing to these people and you really are just a number! Thanks
