Have any teachers out there been unfortunate to have struck down with viral meningitis and if so how long was it before you returned back to work? I know everyone is different but my poor wife has had a confirmed case of it. Thankfully she is on the mend but I worry that she will go back to work too soon, as I know that when she goes back it will be full on as she is in the younger end of primary. Especially this time of year.
I work in a totally different work environment and I know if it was me i could 'escape' so to speak if need be, but I appreciate you teachers can't.
Thanks

If it's still contagious, she can't go back as she risks spreading it to the kids- v. dangerous. If she gets signed off by a doctor she can be off for as long as she needs to. If she really wants she can set work from home and send it in- with a decent supply there's nothing to worry about.

Not a teacher but do work with kids, the doctor won't let her back until she is fully fit, the risks from meningitis is just too great to both her and the children. Especially the younger ones.

I doubt her head teacher will let her back before she is well either.

From a friend who had it years a go I think it took about 2 weeks for her to fully recover so I wouldn't expect her to be going back this side of the Xmas break

Thanks for your replies. She is signed off till later this week, has already been booked into see the Dr as he will not let her go back until he sees he. When he sees her will have been off for 2 weeks. Currently getting better each day it would seem. Is still sleeping alot, which is not like her as usually on the go all the time. When we got married I was told by mum in law would know when she was ill she would sleep! Shall see how the weeks goes.

I had viral meningitis some years ago. Was in hospital for a few days and off work for about half a term. It really knocked me about.

Tuscansausage so sorry to hear that and hope you are well now. Wife keeps saying should only be a week or so but I was there when she went to Drs and to be honest it's knocked the stuffing out of her. She is starting to fret about being off work but I have said you are ill! Work can not hold against you, even the Dr said you have to be able to do normal things and feel well before going back to work.
