The royal family

Harry & Meghan - are they leaders? Who are they leading?

H&M seem to be referred to as "world leaders" a lot...which I find puzzling as are they actually leaders? And if so leaders of who?

Are they leading UK citizens due to being related to the Queen?

And does that stretch to them being leaders for the whole world?

I thought she was Duchess of Sussex but what do I know.
I've never seen her called Princess Henry

Had she not been given the Sussex title when she got married she would be known as princess Henry of Wales . It’s like Prince and Princess Michael who weren’t given a Dukedom on marriage .
If they were to lose the Sussex title , she would revert to Princess Henry .

Is there a new birthday initiative maybe 41x41 from Princess Henry today?

I don't think anyone is referring to them as 'world leaders'... at least not with a straight face.
Harry especially is completely deluded - he knows absolutely nothing about the world as most people experience it yet he seems to consider himself as a world statesmen and we are all dying for him to share his wisdom. Yeah he probably calls himself a world leader 🙄

I really bet he doesn't.

Theynare beconing totally irrelevant. Neither fish nor fowl.

Given the huge amount of threads slating them for whatever they do that clearly isn't true
Op I dint think it's ever been mentioned anywhere ,that they are world leaders in anything
I know people love to Harry and Meghan bash, but why make shit up🤔

They are great role models for those who admire them. Same as any other human really.

No, they are not leaders.

If it wasn’t for social media, they would have gone off to live their lives. Maybe had a couple of articles a year about them.

Oh god, give over.

They fucked off out of that awful family, More power to them.

Let's hope they stay fucked off then.

I can’t see exactly what they ‘do’ tbh. I actually think it’s in the RF’s interest for them to be successful in the US. If they are going to become increasingly bitter and resentful.

I wouldn’t describe any of the RF including M&H as leaders.
leaders are people who have achieved global recognition due to their extraordinary work.
Fortune’s Magazine top 3 of the 50 leaders include people like Jessica Arden, John N. Nkengasong, the pioneers of the MRNA, People who have really made a huge difference.

I’d prefer the RF and someone like Princess Anne to vapid influencers any day.

I think they’re leaders the way Instagram influencers are leaders. There’s a group of people (I don’t know how small) that is clearly influenced by them. These people donate to charities they endorse or buy clothes/items they’re seen with etc.

It doesn’t mean leadership on a world stage and it doesn’t meant they’re moral, spiritual or intellectual leaders. But they do influence some
people on some level, as consumers if nothing else.

They’re the same as other celebs in my view, and I pay as much attention to their speeches (ie not much). Unfortunately we’re not currently in an age where moral or intellectual leadership is praised or valued.

I feel the same about all of the Royal Family - I’m sure most are perfectly pleasant people, and no doubt well-intentioned, but I’d prefer to hear from experts in a field.

I don’t see Harry and Meghan as unusual in this regard at all.

I think most people have had enough of them tbh.

I'd agree with you if I didn't recognise your username as one of the most frequent and vociferous posters on basically every thread you can drag Meghan's name into over the past few years.

Never thought I'd see the day when Mumsnet of all places attack someone for being pro-reproductive rights.

I've never heard them described as leaders, this is a new one on me. & if they are described thus, so what? Im sure they don't call themselves leaders. This is just more made up froth.

'Amazing' how so many of the RF do dubious shit, yet the 'reaching for any excuse to diss' posts are centred upon Meghan & Harry.

They were smart to bail out from UK, some seem on the brink of madness about them.

Who cares..you might as well ask if Fred & Mary who live at the end of your road could be or are 'world leaders', what does it even mean?? Don't we have more important things to worry about & to discuss??

A lot of my American family see them as leaders - whether they like them or not. But they seem to use the word leader in a different way to the way we use it. They use it simply to mean anyone influential/in the public eye.

Literally no one I know here even discusses them. The only time they come up is when they are in the news for thinking anyone in US should listen to them lecturing us.

We definitely don’t call a former TV star and son of a head of state from another country , “Leaders”.

She’s typically “Meghan from Suits” and he’s “Which one is that again?” Until you explain he’s grandson of the Queen, and youngest son of Diana. Doubt most in US would know of him if not for his mother’s massive popularity and tragic death.

I mean they are trying to set themselves up as thought leaders / influencers, or Megan is. But that’s just spin. They are celebrities with some media businesses

They took the decision to leave with no concrete plan

This is where you're likely to be told they were "forced", Gilmorehill - first by the hideous racism of which anyone who doesn't agree with their every choice is accused, and also because of some allegation that their plans were leaked

And every time it's (conveniently?) forgotten that they appeared quite happy to play at least some role, until it became clear they couldn't have everything on the exact terms they wanted

I find Meghans preaching about working mothers ridiculous. As she’s never been one. Harry’s pontificating about workplace stress and the delicate balance he has to strike so he doesn’t tax himself even more ridiculous.
