Ive just inquired about having my puppy washed at my local pet groomers and the price is £27. This seems like a lot of money to just wash a dog. How much do you pay if you don't mind me asking?

@Trewser I don't know as my dog has never rolled in poo. He's just not interested in shit. So you'll have to argue with someone else now, off you go.

Garden hose or shower, depending on how vile the thing they’ve rolled in is.

Tip: don’t wash a white dog in badedas. They turn lime green.

I wash our dog in the bath at home when she just needs a shampoo and dry.

She goes to a dog groomers for a full groom/clip every 6 weeks or so. It’s £36. Brushing, wash and blow dry, full clip and styling, nails clipped, paw pads cleared, anal glands checked and she also gets a 10 minute walk after. The lady runs a small salon from home. I would never use a big grooming room like the pets at home ones, my dog would hate it.

I have my dog properly washed/clipped/groomed/dried etc every 8-12 week because I can't do it myself. Over the years of approx 8 different dog groomer he usually the only one of his breed they have, it's an exceedingly skilful job to make it look good and its very easy to make him look crap. A couple of groomers have charged a reduced rate in the beginning because they want the practice and admit that they've done the words greatest job because they lack the experience. .
I have never cut my children's hair or my DH's I don't have the time equipment or the ability to do it I take the same view about my dog.

This is why we went for a short haired breed!

Ours gets plonked in the bath if he's extra filthy or if he's rolled in something, otherwise he just gets a towel off.

“but as it is I send an hour a week reading her fur”

Well to be fair though, I’d expect to have to groom a longcoated dog daily... that’s why I avoid owning them...

So what happens if you take him for a walk the day after his 45 wash and he rolls in poo? Surely people just bath them then or stick them in the shower? Or does that cost you another 45?

@Trewser I can think of several reasons including owners not having a bath, or only a shower that isn't suitable size or having a physical weakness that would mean washing/drying/lifting in and out of a bath a dog could be painful or cause further injury.

I pay around £40-45 for our large dog to have a full groom includes bath, blasted dry, groom, ears and nails checked. The groomer is excellent with him as he is easily stressed and deals very well with him. It takes about 2 hours so seems quite a reasonable professional rate for a specialist service.
£27 just for a wash does seem rather high so I would be asking exactly what is included in that price.

raking, not reading. Confused

True, I could possibly groom my dog myself, but as it is I send an hour a week reading her fur and she STILL gets matts. Groomer is an essential with poodle crosses!

Regular baths I do myself.

@Raphael34, you can also clip, trim and strip a dog yourself. I used to strip our terrier. I know people who trim their own spaniels.

I pay £35 for a full groom. I have a Pomeranian so a small dog but with a very thick, full coat which has a tendency to knot and felt. My dog goes once a month but for most dogs that would be excessive.

If someone is asking how much then nothing is a valid answer.

Mine gets done every four months and it costs £50 for full groom she has the works and it takes about three and a half hours. She is a long haired mutt and I used to wash my previous dogs myself but I won a grooming voucher and the difference in her coat was astounding.

@Raphael34 because dogs really don’t need regular bathing. It’s worth making that point.

Grumpy I’m sure the op is very aware that you can give the dog a bath yourself. That’s not what she’s asking

My dog has to be clipped every 8-12 weeks (non shedding breed) I've only once then him for a wash when he rolled in fox shit I can't abide the smell it makes me wretch otherwise I shove him in the shower but plenty of friends with dogs do it regularly. More money than sense? Easier? One friend had a big dog she can't lift him in the bath/shower? We live in a village the dog groomer is in the middle of the village they have a walk in dog washing service so your walking by your dog is plastered in mud especially at the minute with all the rain why not pay £10 and get him washed giving someone else the problem?

@Raphael34, to make the point that, for most dogs, you can do it yourself for free. Including nail clipping, if you're brave.

I’d never pay for my dog to be washed, I hose her in the garden or bath her but for a groom I pay around £35.

The groom is different, she is non shedding so needs a haircut, nails etc otherwise she will mat which is painful and won’t be able to see and her paws would be in a state.

Presume you checked all this out when you got the puppy??

Why is there so many people replying to a post asking how much people pay for dog groomers saying that they’ve never paid for one?? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Nothing, they get a hose down when disgusting in the Summer, otherwise a toweling down and a brush will do.

£55 for full groom (needs a full groom as she is a poodle cross and would be terribly matted if not) in London.

@ArtichokeAadvark. I’m assuming they mean the glands expressing. Not sure why this would need doing unless the dog has a medical issue.
Unless your dog is a breed that needs to be bathed to be groomed then I wouldn’t be looking to get it done. It’s really bad for dog’s skin to be regularly washed with shampoo.
I rinse off mud. Today I washed madam’s beard and bits. ( She has had a season.) Haven’t done either since the summer.
I do brush and hand strip the coat to keep it tidy and stop her picking up debris.

Why on earth do they need grooming?!?!?

Because if I tried to clip my dogs coat he would refuse to leave the house from embarrassment Grin
