Vets4pets-any good?

I,m very fussy about my vets, have had some excellent and some dire. I have just moved area and a few dog walkers have recommended vets4pets which I believe is a franchise. I've driven past but not yet gone in. The place looks very smart from the outside. Has anyone got any experience- good or bad? Oh and I'm not looking for the cheapest I just want really good veterinary care.

I’m finding it really difficult to find a good vet at the moment. Had dogs forever & used the same vet for ages now but he retired, last year. The practice has been taken over by Medivet, apart from the prices having risen used to be £32 last year for consultation now it’s £48, no reduction for follow up consultation, booster of just Lepto2 was £58 for a tiny toy breed, you never get to see the same vet always locums. They also charge double for a Saturday morning appointment, closed rest of the weekend & for out of hours which starts at 6pm weekdays.
Been looking round for another but virtually all of them locally are also Medivet.

We were with a local independent practice that was taken over by CVS. Our vet, whom we had known since qualification, left and started his own practice with Vets4Pets. The care we have had, and continue to have, is exemplary. They aren't the cheapest in the area but the younger dog is on a care plan and the older on vaccinations for life (£99 about ten years ago!) and it's affordable.

Appalling treatment here of my healthy male French Bulldog who went in to be neutered and nearly died. He had to be sent to an emergency vets in Badildon and a 5 stay treatment to save his life. I incurred a 3k vet bill and they have taken no responsibility.

The vets I took him to discovered this:
He had a breakdown on the surgery site, when the vets went in to close it they saw that the sperm duct was left open/unattached to anything. he had blood pooling around his penis too.

Do not use this vets for anything other than miner treatment as they are not capable of simple ops !!!

Hi Susan had a very strange experience at my vets today. I took my dog to the vets thinking she had an allergic reaction to a puppy shampoo I had brought. I asked at the time if my dog had mange as it looked like this to my partner and I from our research on the internet..They told us that it wasn’t mange and gave me course of tablets. It seemed to of calmed down a little again but flared up and she started biting again. We’ve just taken her to vets to be told puppies can’t have allergies until after 6 months old and it’s demodex costing yet any £198. I’m very confused as I asked is it mange and she said no yet read it is mange or red mange. Also I have continually been to the vet since we have had her to get flea tick and wormed Micro chipped etc. I don’t understand why they never pointed it any advice please

I know this is an old thread but I’ve been very happy with my Vets4pets surgery. We are also signed up for the vaccs4life scheme which seems to good to be true but so far has saved us a lot of money. Paid £100 to be part of the scheme and my dog gets his annual boosters for free every year plus a 6monthly checkup. 3 years in and it’s already paid for itself.

It really depends on who is running it. We moved to vets4pets when our on vet decided to take over the local franchise. As we knew her from before as an associate of a different vet practice we didn't think it would be much different.

Our vets4pets was great. The only reason we changed to an independent practice is due to location, and it's definitely not as good as vets4pets (never on time, 30 min wait time for a pre booked appointment considered quick for the independent vets we use).

We certainly never had any products pushed at us at vets4pets.

Steer clear from Vets 4 Pets fir your animals. My dogs “Jag for Life” has not been honoured. Vets 4 Pets told me yesterday as they were not “taking any money for” MY FULLY PAID UP LIFETIME JAG and my dog has not needed any extra veterinary care from them they were NOT GOING TO HONOUR IT!!!!! What a barefaced cheek!

It’s going to depend on which one you use.

When we fostered dogs we took them to vets4pets, they did an okay job with neutering them, micro chipping and vaccinations. I don't use them for my own dogs but they do an okay job with fosters. Never had an issue with them.

We are very happy customers of Vets4Pets - our long standing vet (who has also become a good friend) left her independent practice and has started a franchise with them. She has a trusted team of nurses with her, many who we've also known for years and regard as friends too. It's a little further for us to travel, but we are very happy. We have four dogs and the quality of care they receive is brilliant. The extended opening hours are very helpful.

I can't fault vets4pets in my local lets at home with my dogs care

Like everything else it will all depend on the vets running the franchise so the care given may be different

Stay away from Pets4vets no interest in your pet only in how much money they can get out of you my dog just died because of there negligence they could have had him transferd to a specialist but never because they wanted to to extract as much as they could then when it was to late transferd him where he died with in 20 mins of arriving my dog suffered for days before his death so please stay away from this type of vet go to a local one not a franchise one like vets4pets

Hi all.
My pug had her first and only litter in May. I took them for their 1st injection and health check at 8 weeks old. A couple of days later they left for their new adventures in their new homes. I received a message from one of the ladies saying that when they took the baby to vets4pets. She was told that she'd only had half her first injection and would therefor need to pay for the second injection and also the half that was missing from the first. So I give the lady my vets contact details and asked her to phone them to put her mind at rest. I also phoned my vets (of which I have used for several years) and was passed to a nurse who told me there is no such thing as half an injection and told me to pass their number on to the lady and said that her vet was quite welcome to contact them.
Has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks for your time.

We have two in our city owned by the same vet, one purely him and one half with a lady, both are fab the joint owned one is open longer hours and Sunday's and we can pick which one we want to use biased on which bet we want to see if we want to see a certain vet. Very friendly sliding scale for fee's so first visit £25 consult then a second for same condition £18 the third is I believe £15 etc we moved from our old vets as we never saw the same person twice and they used to just look up our breed in a book and not our individual dog. Where as our vet looks at each dog as an individual within its breed and will if we want bring books out for us to look like when one of ours had pano to show us exactly what it looked like at different stages.

But as said its going to be different in each place but we wouldn't use any other vets.

Depends on who is running it. I agree that Newbury branch is excellent (I know some of the staff there but am not local to it unfortunately). Like other vet practices, find a vet you trust and ask for them by name!

I think as a franchise you will have the same experience as an independent practice-completely down to the individual(s) who has invested in the franchise. Most have a web page so you can get some idea of how long they have been running and who is the franchisee.

I was very happy with my local vets4pets before I moved, their main vet there was involved in all the care and accessible via phone at all times. Very caring and very decent, no problems at all.
