House of braur seems good - decent sleeve length - there size charts actually show the length of garment so maybe measure one at home to see? I have the lambs wool ones. Otherwise I have m & s men’s wear plus homemade from mother in law.

Sorry Ridinglady, but I have only tried (and bought) shetland wool jumpers from The Croft House.
For the OP - the other knitwear specialists I have bought from & recommend are Bosie & Westaway - gorgeous colours in Shetland knitwear. Used to need to add 20% for VAT to Bosie prices but it now looks as though they have started to include it.

Brora sometimes do shetland knitwear, but don't have anything described as such at the moment. I have bought wool knitwear from Brora which is similar to shetland wool in that it seems to last forever, but it is not quite as scratchy. Not quite as windproof I think, but I am somewhat biased towards specific shetland knitwear for coping with cold winds.

If you're looking for genuine British, and are an out-doors type, try this lot ...

www.guernseywoollens.com/collections/traditonal-guernsey-jumpers

Good for seriously cold/snow days. Too hot for ordinary winter weather. Definitely not an indoor sweater. 😊

@MintJulia it might be an indoor sweater if you're trying to save on heating bills!!

The Croft House has great quality and lovely fairisle designs but I am shorter than average & the ones I have are a good length for me so you may need to just check the men's section for longer lengths

thanks @Djangor3725 yes was looking at croft house, they look fab ..again it's the length that is the problem - for me anyway.. think it's going to be a case of trying and sending back for alternative unfortunately..have to pay extra postage ..

@Djangor3725 The Croft house looks fab ( and I’m hoping as a short person might fit!). Could I ask how soft is their regular wool ( as opposed to geelong)? I love wool but it does often make me itch ( but am craving one of their fairisle jumpers!).

OP - apologies for jumping your thread!

A 5ft 5 woman isn't short. They're above average height, which is 5ft 3. It also depends on whether people are long or short bodied.

Exactly. I’m that height but very long bodied (think vertical dachshund). Jumpers are rarely long enough for me.

waded through a load of SHORT length womens' jumpers ...very annoying that the average jumper seems to be made for a 5'5" woman🙄

really chuffed to get all these useful and informative messages! thanks so much..in the end went for both celtic and co AND Harleys of Scotland (shetland jumper) Didn't realise there is so much difference between the types of wool. I'm a walker and wear merino base layers in the winter which are lovely; warm and soft but couldn't seem to find thick merino jumpers. Never worn cashmere in my life but not at all sure how you're supposed to wear it ..next to skin as it's so soft or not?
what i was really hoping to find was an authentic Scottish wool mill out in the highlands producing genuine british wool quality stuff but no luck via google..

Yes, I bought this last year. www.celticandco.com/womens/clothing/knitwear/statement-donegal-jumper?colourid=407

It's lovely and the sleeves are long enough. I'm 5'8" and a size 10 with quite long arms. It needs a long sleeved t-shirt underneath, but it's very warm, although quite light. I've hand washed it with no problems.

I was repeatedly complimented on it.

I've just bought the collared slouch too Blush I'm 5.10 tall with long limbs and short bodied. The arms are generously long but I would have liked it a little bit longer in the torso. It doesn't quite cover my size 18 butt. I could have worn the L or the XL but preferred the bigger size.

I think Celtic Co jumpers aren't short in the body so might be ideal.

The other places I buy wool jumpers from are pure collection, woolovers (they don't seem to last as long from here, and I have to buy from the men's section to get them long enough), and house of bruar

I've bought several things, jumpers, cardigans, tops and trousers from celtic co and all have been fine. I am 5 foot 8 and I like jumpers to cover my bum and they have all been fine. The quality has also been excellent.

It's my birthday this month and I treat myself to a celtic co jumper/cardigan every year for my birthday, you have reminded me to go look and decide which one to get

(Sorry, first link is wool and cotton! But there’s lots of pure wool on the website.)

I don’t think I’ve ever bought or owned a fleece. (May have borrowed one for a few hours at sometime.) But I have more Shetland wool jumpers than anything else in my wardrobe.

No experience of Celtic & Co - but since you ask for ‘anything else’ … Grin The two places I’d probably look first at the moment (and possibly wait for their sales) are:

Plain: www.studionicholson.com/products/viere-knit-in-camel Link to a longish looking jumper.

Fancy: www.lafetiche.com/shop/?category=jumpers&sortBy=myOrder Sizing is generous and anything with a unisex name is likely to be pretty long.

Apart from these two admittedly luxury brands (amazing quality, though,) you’ll find proper wool almost anywhere, OP, if you’re looking for it. 100% wool will always be more expensive than any sort of blend - just be sure to check the fabric composition on the label or website. I’m of the opinion that well made British wool is much better value than (and ethically and environmentally preferable to) cheaply made imported cashmere - others may disagree.

I have one lovely Celtic and Co jumper but to be honest I prefer my M&S cashmere, which is the same price
