Seasalt..is it all considered frumpy?

I have developed a particular love for Seasalt clothes..not the patterned things, but the basics like knitwear, trousers (the wide legged cords), the boots, the more tailored blazers etc..is it all considered frumpy? I'm also a Dr Marten, Kin etc kind of girl, so I try and mix it up a little.

Never bought from Seasalt before but I do like Fat Face, which is pretty much the same. You don't have to go for the patterns.

Not for me, I can't stand trousers that flap around half-mast.

Definitely not frumpy and I have a few gems from them, including their Larissa shirts, which have really done great service this summer and cost per wear is now in the pennies!

Emm well i think it is. I’ve never seen it before but it looks like anyone from 30-90 could wear it so-frumpy.

How does being something that can be worn by anyone aged 30-90 make something frumpy? Doesn’t that just make it timeless? Or is the implication that anything that looks it would be worn by someone older than their 20s is automatically ‘frumpy’?! So are women only attractive, and ergo ‘valuable’ when they are young?

For all the seasalt lovers I worked there for about a year it was wonderful, one of the best shops I ever worked in. They erre very generous to staff with clithing allowances, looked after us and was great fun.

That is good to hear 😊

I like the weirdfish brand

Weirdfish and seasalt are very similar, I have clothing from both.

And the last two summer dresses I bought were from there, neither of which look like typical Seasalt items

so one one hand you point out other people being sniffy about the brand but then are quite keen to point out your purchases were not typical Seasalt. I don’t wear much print so I don’t shop in a lot of places….. White Stuff etc. Im keener on more Scandinavian brands. Severe haircut, red lipstick …. That kind of look.

I hate the word ‘frumpy’.

Me too! Very gendered insult based on not dressing sexy enough. there's something I do not like about only women being targeted with looking unsexy in how they dress.

Love me a nautical stripe and a sailor's waterproof jacket! The sludgy shapeless stuff, not so much.

I agree with a lot of the comments re patterned items - not keen on them. However I'm surprised that not many people have mentioned the jumpsuits. I have bought the Rose Trellis jumpsuit in every plain colour I possibly could because it is literally the only jumpsuit that has ever looked nice on me. I'm on the short side and on the plump side and in my 50s so I do probably meet all the 'frumpy' criteria but I don't care! I feel great wearing them!

Love that jumpsuit and my dds both have a plain one, mine is patterned but I think it looks nice

Sizes are small - get 2 sizes bigger.

Thta's not my experience. The clothes I have bought have been pretty much true to size for me.

I hate the word frumpy as well @Ilikepuffins.
I hate the way it is bandied about on S & B as it feels like someone is making a personal judgement on the way you dress.

Quite often it isn't what you are wearing, but how you wear it.

Love the colours... wearing a seasalt tunic T-shirt having a cuppa... Good job we're all different!

Love their tops, and dresses... but their trousers are not made for big bottoms.

That's my idea of hell.. each to their own

I love their boots.

I don't like many of their clothes.

Their raincoats are not beautiful but terribly functional and pretty much unbeatable for when style isn't required.

I hate the word frumpy.

Oh crikey, it's such hard work being stylish! Can't we just have an occasional frumpish day when we feel like it?

Seasalt clothes are well made and of good quality material. What I particularly like is that they do a lot natural materials, particularly cotton. I can't stand synthetic fabrics. They may not be cutting edge fashion but they are great basics.

Yes, I'm not wearing polyester

Agree some of the colours are a bit muted and sludgy but overall they are an excellent brand

Ah, you know it’s changing season out there when the obligatory slagging off Seasalt thread appears.

Are we playing Seasalt Thread Bingo yet?

Frumpy.
Sludgy.
Middle aged.
My 90 year old mum likes it.
Shapeless.

And all the people slagging it off declining to say where they do shop?

House!

It’s a ritual I tell ya. Grin
