Seasalt..is it all considered frumpy?

I have developed a particular love for Seasalt clothes..not the patterned things, but the basics like knitwear, trousers (the wide legged cords), the boots, the more tailored blazers etc..is it all considered frumpy? I'm also a Dr Marten, Kin etc kind of girl, so I try and mix it up a little.

I'm not a tunic or print fan either, but I have found some non tunic/print gems there recently.

Thanks to this thread I've just investigated the wide legged cords, and ordered some together with a sleeveless pullover. And there is a discount on their site at the moment, depending on the value of your total order! I've tended to steer away from their clothes in recent years, because I'm not over fond of tunics, or prints, despite being a 60-something who lives in a small west country town.

The Conwenna boots are beautifully comfortable. They come up a bit wide and I've got narrow feet, so I have to wear thickish socks with them. I love them. And anybody who thinks they are 'frumptastic' (whatever the fuck that means) is entitled to their opinion, but is wrong. They're just boots.

I wear the black ones with everything from jeans, to mini/midi dresses, to a sequin mini skirt and black tights. The brown ones feel beautifully autumnal and go nicely with reds, greens, dark florals and denim. I've now ordered the deep red ones.

Fat Face started off selling clothing items at ski resorts and is named after a ski slope in Val-d'Isère.

That's interesting. Though I think they used to have an outdoor-sy or surf shop atmosphere many years ago. Could just have been the coastal branch I used to visit, however!

Was that not Fat Willy's Surf Shack? 🤣

Yes - this is the third colour.

Oops. Sorry. Are they comfortable?

Visiting London from Melbourne recently, I saw Seasalt for the first time in the flesh at M&S. Well-made but terribly aging styles, not helped by the current fashion for fussy prints so ubiquitous at the moment. At nearly 68, I find such acres of print project a milkmaidish air. Small doses only, a blouse perhaps, but not in the current Seasalt range.

Frumptastic

I really dislike that kind of comment.

Must admit I have boot envy there. Why don’t they come in a 42?

When I read about it on here I took a look and to me it's quite frumpy. But I'm alternative so I have a certain look/image anyway.

The boots that one of us loves so much that she has them in 3 colours is the Conwenna

Ask @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie for a full review.

I quite like a lot of them and shoes, and may or may not be at my local branch tomorrow trying some on. This thread has inspired me to shop there.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie , I read the earlier one from FayCarew and assumed that you were wearing them out.
That is quite a recommendation then.

I eat my words about them wearing out quickly. They have some nice footwear on the web site.

@ILoveShula No. I've bought them in a third colour. They are fabulous quality.

If they are the best boots ever why are you needing to replace them, or are you buying different colours?

Yes - this is the third colour.

Skirts are a bit weird in Seasalt and then one I quite like only comes in one colour

@OceanbreezeSun , I don't particularly think Toast is all that expensive either (way beyond my budget, and like Seasalt not really my style), because they are clothes that are well made and, if looked after, should last.

No sorry that just isn’t true.

Wasn't White Stuff the surfing brand?

@OceanbreezeSun , you don't like their style and you don't shop there, so it's no issue then is it. I've just got rid of some lovely cashmere and merino that had been eaten by moths, so a bit of nylon would probably help.

I'm not sure how much you'd expect to pay for a decent quality cotton dress or a cardigan. Compared to, say, Toast, SeaSalt seems quite reasonable, but it might be expensive compared to FatFace. Compared to somewhere like Tu, which has the odd gem, it does seem expensive.

The boots strike me as expensive because a pp said she was on her 3rd pair. I'd expect a pair of boots to last a few years, unless they were being worn every day and for things like walking several miles and driving.
