Breastfeeding in winter

What the hell am I supposed to wear to breastfeed in the winter months now it's getting cold?
I basically live in vests at the moment when I'm in the house and keep avoiding going out but I can't / don't want to do this forever
I would quite like to look stylish still but not get cold boobs!!
I'm 24 for reference and roughly a size 16 of that matters

Cardigans. Wrap round your tummy and baby when feeding.

I’ve breastfed for a sum of 7 years across several children and I’ve never ever bought any breastfeeding clothes!! Just wear exactly what I’d want to wear anyway, but with a little vest underneath. Pull clothes up and vest down! Easy!

I’m the same but 6 and a bit! You really dont need anything specially made.

Wear any top at all just with a vest under. Get a vest with long straps so it’s easy to pull down under your boobs then just lift your top up. Your tummy stays warm. The top can be any- sweater, shirt, T-shirt etc
Or wear a top you can unbutton and wear a scarf to keep your neck/collar bones warm.

Dresses are the trickiest, but again you can do button down ones. Don’t worry about flashing a bit of skin, you probably won’t as you get very used to arranging clothes but don’t let that put you off wearing something you love.

I just used to wear big jumpers. Initially I wore vests underneath but stopped bothering as the baby got bigger as they covered you up anyway.

Did was a January baby - word of warning, when my nips got cold they hurt like absolute hell for some reason. So try and breastfeed in warm cafes if you’re out as much as possible!

Layer up, I worse a vest with snap straps, a flannel shirt and a jumper. I could then lift jumper up, move shirt aside and pull vest down to access boob, but I was mostly stil covered.

Get a couple of big warm scarves that look like blankets to stay extra snuggly.

I always quite liked a thin merino jumper or thermal with a warm flannel shirt on top. I’d open the shirt buttons down to just below my boobs, then pull up the jumper underneath. This way you can literally just expose the nipple if you want to. High waisted skirt or trousers are nice because they keep you warm even when you’ve lost most of one layer by pulling it up. A warm wrap dress with a thin jumper on top works well too. And you can add a thick cardigan in top of that if necessary.

I had my twins in October and ds1 in November so basically breastfeed till 6-7 months through the winter. I wore the clothes I'd always had and nursing bra! Basically baby covers your boob when feeding and abdomen so you don't get cold. To be honest pulling a top down rather than up is way more revealing! And no, babies don't suffocate if there's some fabric bunched around the boob.

Loose strappy vest - pull that down
Looseish top - pull that up
Cardigan or hoodie over the top
Scarf if you want to be extra snug
Only really works with skirts or trousers

As PP have said - it's so much easier than in summer!

I had a great top that was long sleeved jersey but with a kind of envelope bit that came up but left you covered. Was fabulous

I just wear my normal clothes as long as they pull up or down, have got a couple of dresses that I can't really wear at the moment but everything else is fine. At least everywhere is open this year, feeding in the park last winter did get a bit chilly!

Thinking about it maybe we should approach it from the other direction - what would you wear in winter if you weren't breastfeeding, OP? It's definitely harder for some styles than others; I normally wear lots of dresses and I do find it frustrating that I can't make them work and so I wear separates a lot more when breastfeeding.

I never really get this sorry to sound rude I just mean I’ve bf four and I never wore breastfeeding clothes I just wore normal clothes that I could pull up or down! Never been a problem

I think it's a million times easier when it's cold as you can layer up and just pull the vest down but have a cosy jumper on top! Just make sure the jumper isn't too tight and you can settle it around the baby's head. I hate dressing for breastfeeding in the summer, I feel so exposed if I feed when I've just got a vest on.

I know what you mean OP. In the warmer weather it was much easier with lovely breastfeeding dresses. I am not a hoodie or leggings person at all so this isn't a look I would want. Another issue I have with dressing well is there are lots of fast fashion unethical maternity brands out there but I have struggled to find sustainably sourced fabric made without slave labour.

Jumpers, hoodies, scarves, two tops are handy one up one down. Cardigans are helpful too

You can get breastfeeding jumpers, hoodies, winter dresses etc from certain companies like Juno Jacks.

Uniqlo have long sleeve heattech tops which you can wear as a base layer under jumpers. They’re super warm and they do a scoop neck one that you can get your boob out the top of
