Plus size clothing

Hi MN's I hate even using the title I have as I think it's a terrible name for clothing.
I am trying to find some nice new bits of clothing for the up coming season etc, and struggling to find where to buy from.
As many did, we lost shops years ago around where I live, and despite having a Yours store, I find their clothing comes up too big or small for the size, everything is so long and looks like smock tops etc, makes me look bigger. I am a size 20 pretty much.
I go out shopping and of course are limited as to where I can go.
I want things that look nice that's all not too young but too old as I am over the 30 bracket.
Is there anywhere that any of you order from online that you are happy with?
I spend my life in jeggings dressed up or down, and really need to get in to wearing a few different outfits I feel, otherwise it just looks like I am wearing the same thing all the time 🙄
But it has been easier to just throw things on instead of having to think about it.
I also want a new lightly padded jacket so something to keep me warm on colder days but not too bulky and at least down to lower thigh so not too short or long.
Or if anyone has any suggestions of other similar items then I would be greatful to hear your ideas.
Thankyou in advance.

Not sure if you can get it over there but City Chic is fantastic. They have beautiful dresses that are lined and fit super nicely (I have about ten City Chic dresses, they are my favourite ones). Jeans that are actually made for larger women and fit in the behind area properly instead of being too short at the back. Beautiful tops. Stuff that's great for wearing to work and out at night. They do sizes I think 16-26

I don't like Yours Clothing either, seem to think everyone over a size 16 is also a giant and they have terrible customer service.

I'm 37 and a size 16-20 and get most of my outfits from ASOS, mostly their own curve range but they also have plus size ranges from other brands. Fast, free returns and for £9.99 you get a years delivery pass.

Also use Simply Be for jackets esp parkas for the winter.

Simply Be, New Look Curve, H&M Plus and Dorothy Perkins Curve are my faves! I'm a size 20 too.

Next goes up to 22 in most things. M&S do too and have the odd thing.

Live Unlimited have some nice things.

H&M do a plus range but it’s styled really badly on the website.

Monsoon goes up to 22.

Joules and Monsoon go up to size 24 and have some lovely looking stuff check out Laura Adlington (from Bake Off) on Instagram, she's been doing some try -ons recently and it gives a really good idea of what they look like on someone of size 20+

I’m the same size as you @Redruby2020 😊 completely agree about Yours - I’ve got lucky with the odd item but it’s usually a fail!!

As others have said, ASOS is good, H&M Plus, Monsoon for occasion wear (ASOS is good for this too!). I tend to avoid M&S and Next for good as they’re usually a bit shorter than I like.

I do also use Very quite a lot, purely for the fact that I can order a good choice of things and sizes, have a try on at home, send back what doesn’t suit and then pay for what I keep. Rather than having to wait for refunds 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi, thankyou for your response. ASOS sounds good! The delivery part especially! As it can get pricey trying different items and the constant delivery charges or having to spend over a certain amount just to get free delivery.
I have actually just been looking at Simply Be the other day to see what jackets or coats they had, and funny enough I saw a parka and am considering trying it.

Thankyou! Yes ASOS seems to be getting some good votes on here, I shall take a look. And that sounds great re: Very, as yes it gets difficult if you send lots back but still have to wait for a refund, and still haven't ended up with anything, but then need funds to purchase more things to try on.

Redruby2020 a lot of people rate Seasalt for coats even when they wouldn't buy much else there, and they do up to a 26 in a lot of styles.

I asked a similar sort of question today, as I'm a mid-plus size and struggling with clothing which is actually nice to wear and shops which are nice to shop in.

I get a lot from H&M online. I love their conscious and premium ranges. I like that they are size inclusive while also trying to be fairly current. I've had some really decent summer weight dresses from there lately.

Also, now, this does get laughed at on here, but I rate M&S these days. There are some nice things on there.

I believe Nobody's Child is extending their range to include bigger sizes which is great.

I like Violeta by Mango too. It's on the younger side, but I'm 37, so probably older than you or a similar age.

Agree ASOS is a good shout too, although quality can be hit and miss. But their delivery and returns are easy, so just order a few things to try maybe and be prepared to send back.

Why is it so hard to find anything that looks classy in big sizes? It's all cheap and nasty fabrics, tacky styles - those horrible maxi dresses!

I love a maxi dress, but I'm quite tall. And, tbf they're all over the high street (from what I can see online).

But otherwise, yes, totally agree with pp. It is so disappointing sometimes, shopping for bigger sizes. I'm only a 16, but have been bigger and sometimes do need an 18 or 20 (looking at you H&M denim Hmm).

There are some nice shops which go up to a 26, but quite spendy. There's one I only heard of recently called The Hour and it looks lovely. But pricey.

John Lewis can be nice and so can Zara, but I feel as if with Zara there is a bit of gatekeeping involved and it isn't easy to work out their sizing or to find what items come in bigger sizes. But there are some things in bigger sizes I think.

I follow some plus size influencers on Instagram. There is one called Louise O'Reilly who I love. She is 5'9" and a size 22 (I think). Think her handle is Style Me Curvy and she wears Zara sometimes.

Also try Marina Rinaldi (but that's £££££). I too love classier, higher end clothes, but sadly don't have the budget to match!

I feel as if there is a lot at the budget end, like supermarkets, M&S, H&M, New Look all have big plus size ranges. Or it's very expensive. The in between budget and very high end, seem not to be arsed about bigger sizes, which is annoying and quite stupid. Can't help but think there is an element of brand protection involved / gatekeeping.

Oh another one I've noticed is Hush, has now got some size 18s. Their sizing is very generous, so a 16 fits an 18 or even a 20, so an 18 might go up to a 22 in some items.

Someone also recommended Toast for bigger sizes as the sizing is generous.

I agree there's nothing in the middle - it's a big jump from New Look to Marina Rinaldi! And even their things can look a bit lairy! Although there's a yellow top I'd love that's £200. Unfortunately, despite yearning for a classier look I have an un-classy tendency to spill stuff down my front!

  • ASOS for odd mix of things
  • H and M ditto
  • New look, river island - a bit also (RIP oasis)
  • Marks and Spencer’s for jeans, cotton shirts, long sleeved t-shirts, summer coats
  • Navabi in the sale for classics (vast and quite expensive random mix, they do do some basics)
  • Landsend - ace for coats, otherwise granny-ish although once you get to size 24 great for jeans, shirts, swimwear (also good for kids)
  • Sloggi on Amazon for cotton bras and control knickers
  • Simply Be - rubbish - but occasionally for sports stuff

Seasalt if you like Boden but can’t fit into it

Cotton Traders have more online than you'd think and it's nice fabric. Also Evan's tend to cut things so they look right on a bigger size.
