How High Maintenance are you?

BanoffeeCheesecake · 22/04/2018 20:20

In terms of clothes/beauty/hair/looks of course!

I used to be higher maintenance when I was younger but I'm in my early forties now and I just can't be arsed. I always end up wearing jeans/shorts and vest tops or sports wear if I'm going running or to the gym.

I don't have my nails done anymore nor do I paint them myself - fingers or toes - as it always chips and looks worse. Hair is highlighted and cut every 6-8 weeks but just worn loose after being blasted with the dryer or worn in a messy bun. I do wear a bit of make up but only concealer, a bit of eye pencil, mascara and lip colour when I can be bothered to put it on.

I do exercise and try to eat healthily and so am slim and fairly toned but that's my only regular thing towards my looks that I do really apart from getting my hair done.

I hardly ever buy clothes anymore either as I can never find anything I like!

Not very. 58. Hair every six weeks, highlights, trim, blow dry. Pedicure every 6 weeks through summer; never gels because I can tidy, paint inbetween.

A little make-up daily: No 7, bit of Lancome, use No 7's 3 in ones.

Never plucked eyebrows, not hairy, never had a facial although dd and I went to a spa recently and I had an eye lift and it was awesome. Whale music and everything.

I have to be professional for work: mix of hobbs, phase 8, jigsaw, M&S. Also need the odd posh frock for wife duties - dinners, opera, odd formal thing.

I work full time in a prof job and don't think I'm the last of the big spenders although you might not think it on here.

I reckon all in I spend about £3.5k pa.

GoofyBollox · 22/04/2018 20:33

I spend very little on myself beauty wise. We don't have much spare money and my priorities have shifted. No spending on nails, hair, beauty treatments. I shop mainly in charity shops and ebay but wear pretty casual clothes like you OP. I have just started a very simple skin care routine to help my skin (cleanse and moisturise) but it's mid range stuff. I eat healthily but cheaply. My indulgence is the odd takeaway coffee.
Once kids are older and I have a little bit more money, I would love to be blonde again- I miss my highlightsBlush

GoofyBollox · 22/04/2018 20:35

Always informal, no make up, hair scruffed back nice splatter of baby puke . Its a good look Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/04/2018 21:07

I don’t consider myself high maintenance, but compared to posters on this thread I am. I don’t have salon treatments other than my hair, and eyebrow threading, but I wear makeup every day, always have painted finger and toenails, and enjoy buying new clothes and beauty products. My clothes come from places like Topshop, Zara, Whistles and And Other Stories, and I have a bit of a perfume habit. I earn a decent salary and we don’t go hungry so I can buy a Chanel lipstick.

Caramelapplecake · 22/04/2018 21:07

About as low maintenance as you can get!! Although I do have my hair trimmed / dyed every 4 weeks - mobile hairdresser not expensive salon though.

I need to up my game in so many respects if hardly bears thinking about.

ChishandFips33 · 22/04/2018 22:14

Wouldn't even make a grading scale for this! I'm cheap to keep Grin

Only thing I treat on is La Roche Posay skincare and I now wear my nice perfume everyday

CountFosco · 22/04/2018 23:36

Hair cut every 5 weeks £45. I don't dye it.
I shave my legs every couple of weeks in the summer and not at all in the winter. No other defuzzing.
Never have pedicures, manicures, facials or eyebrows done.
Don't wear makeup. No fancy moisturisers.
No cosmetic surgery.

I do have a shoe habit and like clothes. Last year I spent just over £2k on clothes and shoes. I also like perfume and have a subscription that costs £10pcm plus I've spent over £100 so far this year on perfumes recommended by the enablers on the perfume threads.
I exercise every day so have a card for the local leisure centre that costs me a whole £25pcm.

AnnabelleLecter · 22/04/2018 23:51

Quite spendy on clothes, often designer but sometimes from charity shop, but not that often, more in the quality rather than quantity range.
Have a few nice pieces of jewellery and expensive watch.
Long wavy hair is trimmed and highlighted every 9-10 weeks.
Make-up lasts me ages even though I do wear it daily. I don't bother with expensive brands, things like Lush, Mua, Barry M.
Skincare is very simple, face scrub, argan oil and suncream.
Soap and glory shower gel and Lush for perfume and soap.
Go to gym and swimming every week and spa once a month which usually means a massage. Eat well.
Do my own pedi, manicure and brows at least once a week.
Just started with the gradual fake tan.
Really focus on looking after my teeth these days.

CallarMorvern · 23/04/2018 04:03

Really low maintenance. I cut and colour my own hair, this is one of the things I would change if I had the money, I'd love to be blonde.
Make up is minimal and not everyday, M&S, Rimmel, Asda type prices. Moisturizer and BB cream from Nivea, glycolic stuff from Superdrug. Toes painted in summer, my only extravagant buy is Clarins tanning drops, which I haven't used yet.
Clothes from charity shops, Ebay, Primark and Peacocks, gymwear mainly Aldi/Lidl. Shoes and trainers I have to spend a bit more on as I'm a bigfoot.
Most of my money goes on the child 🤨

DXBCat · 23/04/2018 05:28

Think I'm relatively well maintained. Do my hair colour every 3 weeks as roots grow so fast, cut every 6 weeks. Manicure and pedicure every 2 weeks. Microbladed my eyebrows so just thread any stray hairs each month. Lasered my underarm and bikini. Do conditioning treatment and face mask at home each week. Wear make up every day and have a serious perfume habit! Dread to think the cost of all this if I added it up.....

BanyanTree · 23/04/2018 06:42

I probably spend the same amount of time on myself but use it differently.

I do up to 5 x hours of exercise a week. I used to do more.
Hair coloured and cut every 4 months. Don't need more at the moment.
I do obsess over my hair and constantly do conditioning treatments and do my own keratin treatments. I do have nice hair though.
Do my own pedicure and foot treatments and do a better job of it.
I don't do my fingernails anymore as too busy gardening.
Don't spend as much on clothes as not that fussed.
Spend way more money and time on my skin now.
I don't wear as much makeup as not working and don't have big social life.

People tell me I look good so all that behind the scenes maintenance pays off I think. I am more confident now can't be arsed what others think than I was when I was younger.

Pinkvici22 · 23/04/2018 06:49

I would’ve said I’m fairly high maintenance but mostly look after myself at home.

Hair colour at home every 6 weeks
IPL body hair at home
Wear make up and nice perfume daily (make up is a mix of cheap and designer)
Style hair daily but wash once/twice a week
Spend a fair bit on clothes/shoes (mostly high street clothes...more expensive shoes)
Colour and shape my eyebrows every few weeks at home
Always paint my own toenails

Get a salon haircut every 4 months, but I do get my fingernails done once a fortnight.

Gah81 · 23/04/2018 06:51

I spend a lot on a Harley St dermatologist and wear some makeup every day but that is it. I also do a lot of hiking.

No pedicures or manicures. Haircut every 6 months. No colouring. No facials. Buffed, moisturised feet and nails. Footner every so often.

Oh. And I also spend on clothes - work full-time in finance and vintage suits are my weakness. V little money spent on bags though, and nice but workmanlike shoes from Hobbs, Russell and Bromley etc.

Herja · 23/04/2018 06:53

More so than I can afford. I like makeup, like looking nice. I'm skint so I do it via charity shops and chemist makeup that's well applied. I do my own nails and eye brows, but well. So it's on a serious budget, but doesn't look it. It probably takes a lot more maintenance than when I could afford to outsource it.

falang · 23/04/2018 07:06

Depends. I now spend less on skincare since I discovered Aldi products are just as good as what I used to pay. I get my brows threaded and tinted once a month (£15). No longer get my hair professionally coloured so save £55 there. Wear make up every day for work, buy a mixture of expensive and cheap items. Stopped buying expensive perfume. Have a gym membership. Pay a bit more for clothes and shoes now but I go out a lot more. Have embraced the short red nail look (after a thread about looking French on here) and I do them myself. Will get a pedicure soon. I would say I'm pretty low maintenance now.

BikeRunSki · 23/04/2018 07:13

Very low. Haircut every 2 months. Highlights a couple of times a year. Wash my hair rarely (curly girl method) and leave to dry naturally. Never had a a mani, pedi, professional wax of any sort. Don’t own a hair dryer. I do Veet cold wax strips on my legs about once a fortnight in the summer. Had a spa day once - was very bored.

Exercise is swimming, cycling, running and walking.

Clothes are largely practical, and new clothes tend to replace old ones with something similar. Work clothes mostly jersey dresses and jersey cardigans. Home clothes are largely straightleg jeans, Breton Ts and merino jumpers. I have 3 of each - same style but different colours. My cycling kit is far more varied and expensive!

VladPutin · 23/04/2018 07:15

Very.
Botox
Lashes
Waxing threading tinting
Nails
Make up every day.
Hair colour

VladPutin · 23/04/2018 07:15

Oh pedicure manicure
Gym

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/04/2018 07:17

40ish.

Shower daily, clean clothes. That’s about it.

Should probably do more in terms of excercise and hair but actively dislike the over made up look/nails/brows thing on me (each to their own of course, no criticism of anyone who does.)

VladPutin · 23/04/2018 07:19

I don’t think washing is high maintenance ? 😦

Floisme · 23/04/2018 07:23

Depends whether we're talking about clothes or grooming. If it's clothes then I guess I'm high although I think of it as just liking what I like. I'll cheerfully spend hours getting the length of my cropped trousers right or hunting down a jumper in the right shade of navy or doing a circuit of the best charity shops every week or two. But I enjoy all that and don't regard it as work.

Grooming on the other hand bores the shit out of me. Don't know why. I do the basics which for me means cleanse, moisturise and use a sunscreen. I wear some make up but it's pretty low key and not every day. And I have a regular hair cut so that I can wash my hair and go. I don't fake tan, wax, paint my nails or own a hairdryer. I had to ask a poster on here what eyebrow threading was.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 23/04/2018 07:25

I need to up my game in so many respects if hardly bears thinking about.

^ This describes me too. Most of you do way more than me!

Medium I’d say.

Nails done fortnightly
Hair every 4-6 weeks (roots, Olaplex, highlights, cut)
Monthly facial at dermatologist, weekly done at home by me
High end skin care products (prescribed by dermatologist) used twice a day (& there’s a good few of them)
Eyebrows threaded every three weeks or so
Legs / Bikini waxed monthly
Body lotions every day
Make up every day
Gym 5-6 times a week.

And I buy clothes every month - prices range vastly from high end to high street.

AmIAWeed · 23/04/2018 07:45

I've been described as high maintenance but actually spend very little time each day.
Facial monthly - daily I have a prescribed cleanser I use morning and night and factor 50 face sun cream
Fortnight eyelashes - no need to do mascara in between
Hair every 6 weeks, dyed and cut
Hair is cut to a short inverted bob so is blow-dryed every other day, straighteners only used if on a night out.
Eyebrows are microbladed and eyeliner is a semi permanent tattoo.

The facials keep my skin great so I can simply pop on lip balm and leave for the day with no other make up.

I do lots of gardening so nails are kept short and never painted.

Bluesheep8 · 23/04/2018 08:01

I always think of myself as high maintenance but maybe I'm fairly average...I'm 44...
Hair cut every 4 weeks, have to do this religiously as it's v short and grows super fast. No grey so don't have it coloured.
Cleanse tone and moisturiser using Liz Earle and Aldi
Revitalash eyelash and brow serum
Bare minerals foundation, eye shadow, blusher and mascara (everything apart from foundation and blush can be any old brand.
Liz Earle face mask once a week
Glycolic pads from Aldi twice a week
Body lotion daily.
Never have facials
Clothes from Primark and charity shops, occasionally Sainsbury's and next 😁
