It’s never too early to start thinking about the kids starting or heading back to school. There’s so much to buy that it’s hard to remember everything or even know how much of each thing you need - are 5 shirts enough/too much? Where should I shop? What should I buy? Are all common questions our MNers have.

Here’s what George at ASDA has to say: “Our schoolwear and footwear are such brilliant quality, we’re proud to offer a no-quibble 100 day satisfaction guarantee. This means that if you’re not happy with an item you’ve brought with 100 days, we’ll give you a full refund. So you can shop with complete confidence.”

George at ASDA would like you to go to their website here and pick out your favourite back to school items, whether that’s uniform, shoes, lunchboxes, or stationary and come back and share them (ideally with a link to make it easy on anyone who wants to check them out). It would be great if you could also share your back to school tips and tricks with your fellow MNers, especially those who may have DC going to school for the first time this year!

So how many shirts do you buy? Don’t forget about the PE kit! What are the most comfy school shoes for your DC? Have you found an amazing lunchbox with lots of handy compartments? Do you label EVERYTHING? How do you get your kids in the mindset for going back to school? Whatever your favourite back to school items and tricks, please share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 George at ASDA voucher.

Thanks and good luck

Go now, I've been today and the local school colours are running low. I bought the last two pairs of trousers in the right colour and size.

I find buying school items at the end of term so start of school holidays the best time as this is when their are a lot of sales on. Because children grow a lot over the year I buy several of the main things like shirts, skirts etc. One in the size they are going to need at the start of the new term and one a size bigger for any growing. Asda is a great place to buy from too as the prices are amazing! Won't find cheaper and at that sort of great quality too. I find earlier you shop you can then enjoy the summer without all the school shopping hanging over your head

I love this bag direct.asda.com/george/kids/accessories/printed-bungee-rucksack/GEM562501,default,pd.html

I always spend too much on a bag and this is a bargain! My view is have plenty of spare uniform incase you're away at the weekend and don't get chance to do the washing!

Make choosing fun! Get together nearer the time of return to school for a less stressful online shop! Let them choose item a they like - especially stationary and lunchboxes etc. ASDA website is very user friendly for this - the Zebra lunch bag is a popular choice at present subject to change! Lots of choice is great as choosing is then much more fun.

This rucksack is great for school and weekends! direct.asda.com/george/kids/accessories/love-heart-print-faux-suede-panel-rucksack/GEM560991,default,pd.html

This is a wonderful lunch bag with bottle holder - very useful for keeping them together but the bottle with still probably get lost! I reckon you'd be able to replace it though as it looks standard size!

My DS is 7. I buy:
2 pairs of trousers
6 polo shirts (3 x packs of 2)
2 jumpers
2 x pe kits consisting of plain tshirt, joggers, shorts, hoody (x1), plimsolls (x1 pair)
1 x swimming kit - which has to be black trunks (no shorts), towel and a school swimming cap

His bag is still in perfect condition, as is his water bottle so won't be replacing them and some of his uniform is all still in good nick, so still have lots of spares. Have extra polos saves doing a white load every other day, where I can wait until the weekend and do the lot together.

I also buy the name tags from Asda, last year I did it via text and got them delivered, they are easy to iron into all clothing and accessories.

These are great, and BPA free. We have one each.

My top tip (actually for secondary) is to have a spare pencil case with the basics in in your bag. That way, if you lose or forget yours, you don't need to worry, and if anyone else loses theres, you can loan them one and are the hero of the hour. Great for nervous year sevens, and I learnt that tip on here years ago!

Grey jersey trousers with the little butterfly charm. Not strictly my favourite item, but my 7 year old DD's. Very practical and comfortable whilst still looking smart.

These are the shorts we've got for the DC to wear to school. They fit the kids well, have been well wearing, and are cheap enough for us to buy 5 pairs without having to worry too much about the cost.

It's nice to have multiple sets of uniform for busy weeks when we don't have much time for washing, the bits we don't have a weeks worth of are the bits that have to be logoed, which are ££££ more than Asda uniform and not generally any better quality.

I think Asda has a fantastic range of back to school essentials. Their clothing products are great value for money and made with durable, quality materials. Having boys aged 11 and 14 years old the trend is definitely slim fit, stretch trousers. They can be expensive to find but thanks to Asda, I have it covered. Check out the link for these boys trousers.

Loving the look of the slim ft trousers. Ds1 starts in sept, I'm thinking of getting 3 pairs of trousers, 5 polo shirts and 3 or 3 sweaters. I'm guessing 1 PE set will be enough for now? Would love to hear any advice on what they actually need to take with them, do they need a school bag to begin with, pencil case etc?
