Claire Stracey, Head of Marketing Communications at Scottish Widows says:

"We know thinking about retirement is probably not front of mind, especially when you have more pressing tasks to take care of as a busy mum. Whether you’re in full-time employment or you’ve taken a career break, we’d love to hear any retirement planning questions that keep you awake at night. Have you had trouble finding clear information on your pension options? Are you confident that you’re setting yourself up for the best possible retirement?

We want to make retirement planning less daunting so we’ll be sharing stories and suggestions from our pensions specialists to help you get - or stay - on track.

So what are your biggest concerns when it comes to retirement? Let us know on the thread below and look out for pensions information for mums here; on Facebook and on ScottishWidows.co.uk."

By leaving your comment below, you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £250 John Lewis voucher*. Standard T&Cs apply and can be viewed here.

Thanks and good luck!

I currently cannot afford to put to a pension. I am currently working part time. I have a frozen pension I paid into for 10 years in a previous job. It is something I ponder about will I be able to retire and enjoy retire and not work right up until the end. Will i have enough finances to be at least comfortable

Apart from the not actually getting to retirement age as it is increased and increased the lack of money is worrying. Currently I only have my own pension I pay into which would give me so little it is hardly worth having however I can not rely on the state pension which by the time I retire will most likely be obsolete.

I'm a stay at home mum with disabilities, my partner is self employed and so has no partner. I worry about us not being able to afford to live when we are older and getting in to debt

my last post should have said my partner has no pension

Just being able to survive. My husbands had a personal pension since he was 21 and it's worth less than £30 a week. As retirement is only just over 10 years away and we now have custody of 2 young children we can't afford to put more money in.

My husband works for the NHS and has been paying for more than 15 years. I used to work for the NHS too and have some money in there but not much.

My husband and I save money every month for our pension and then try to get some interest in saving accounts. I think this will give us a fair amount when we retire. My biggest concern is not to have enough for living...

I am self employed and don't make a lot of money. I would like advice on how best to start preparing for my retirement with little funds.
