I'm concerned about my friend's 14 year ASD DS. My DCs are not happy because he touches/strokes their hair, clothes and gives prolonged hugs. The behaviour feels creepy even though we understand this is part of his condition. My friend seems to not notice and doesn't say anything - I think she reckons its ok because that's who he is. I want to talk to her about this more as I'd hate his continuous touching to get him into serious trouble in the future. We want to be supportive. Any thoughts?

He's sensory-seeking, not being creepy.

Can you let your kids know it's fine for them to say 'Stop, don't touch me, I don't like it'. Every time he gets close.

It may be nicer if 'they' could buy him something that he could stroke and hug instead. Maybe a textured cushion, or a squishy toy, that sort of thing.

I'd also have a word with his Mum and say that your kids don't like being touched, so rather than them reject him (although they will if he carries on) could she please head him off before he does it.
